3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JohnRMurdoch (2257) - Glasgow, SCOTLAND - MAY 1, 2013
500ml bottle from Hippo Beers. Hazy pale yellow amber colour, not much head, some sediment. Grain & tropical fruit aroma. Dry biscuit & citrus fruit flavour. Grapefruit aftertaste. A "Mallinson’s" copycat beer.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 jmgreenuk (1305) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - APR 23, 2013
Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a hazy yellow straw colour with a broken white head. The aroma is hoppy and a little floral. The flavour is medium bitter, grassy, a little floral and with lots of hoppy bitterness on the palate which lingers into the aftertaste. Not the best in their single hop series, but a great ale all the same.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 McNeillR (254) - SCOTLAND - APR 19, 2013
Blonde body and thin pillow of white head. Chalkyish lemon nose. Firm pineapple initial taste held in place by a yeasty backbone and peppery lemon linger. Surprisingly unbitter finish, more dry and yeasty tackling down any top drawer zest. Not the series’s finest.Bottle, Marksman Tasting, Edinburgh
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 DruncanVeasey (6116) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Premier, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - APR 18, 2013
500ml bottle. Straw gold- misty as you want it- capped with messily lacing white. Outrageous, perfumed sweet hop aroma like Fruit salad chews, a satsuma left under the driver’s seat for 6 months, some kind of kinky passion fruit and lemon mousse smeared over the body of your beloved. Less evocative flavour; hops singing softly with mouldy satsuma; aniseed, greenery; monkey nut and honey malt. Finishes curtly with little aftertaste. Very good, but would benefit from a second hop. Kind of undermines the single hop concept, I know...
3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 JohnCook101 (112) - - JAN 31, 2013
500ml bottle. Pours cloudy amber with a good head and a long ttle sediment. Slightly floral aroma. Not hugely complex but has a really good hit of hops. Light and refreshing with a substantial but not overwhelming bitter finish. A slight grassiness in there too. Just my kind of beer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 FatPhil (7511) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JAN 22, 2013
Cask (Euston Tap, London)
Slightly green hoppy aromatic aroma. Nicely attenuated and refreshing. Nice bitterness too. A little pale. Dry resiny finish. Touch of honey in the malts, but not sweet /per se/. Good balance, shows motueka off well as a versatile hop.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 shoulderbroken (1145) - Tokyo, JAPAN - JAN 6, 2013
Cask at the Holborn Whippet. Clear blond colour, white fluffy head. Aroma is floury, slight real ale stink, bit earthy and some subtle creamy fruitiness. Taste is nice enough, creamy and floury again. Not a massive taste but by no means unpleasant. Slight vegetable element with a little bit of fruit in the background. Maybe some minerals too. Soft in the mouth.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Theydon_Bois (2957) - The ’Sham, Surrey, ENGLAND - DEC 31, 2012
Cask at the Sussex Arms, Twickenham Green - 29/12/12.
Clear pale golden with a thin white head that clears to the edge and leaves a film. Good lacing ensues.
Nose is hops, light pine, tropical fruit notes with grapefruit at the fore.
Taste comprises pine, hops, orange pith, bitter grapefruit.
Medium bodied, soft carbonation, bitter finish.
Decent.
