Rastacouere (5418), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jul 28, 2005 Deep reddish brown, fading off-white head. Nutty and toasted bread nose is mostly malty with a faint earthy whisp. Fruity, grapey, lightly leathery, appealing nose. Filling the mouth medium body, gentle soft carbonation. The flavors are sweet, oily and bready. Clean, but simple. acrdz (4486), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jan 4, 2008 Light in color, similar to the Troegs with a golden amber red color. Lightly tingly on the tongue up front, sweet and floral, with some candy sugar and fruity notes through, finishing a little heavier on the yeast presence. Not a typical doppelbock but a good high gravity beer regardless. muzzlehatch (4429), Burlington, USA Dec 30, 2004 Sample at the brewpub. Whiskeyish dark amber color, lasting touches of foam...nose kissed by sweet herbs but mostly vanilla amidst dark caramel, actually surprisingly dry...body is very sweet and candyish (caramel again), with sweet cherries, a touch of smoke, and an interesting late dry oaky, vinous character, like old port...very full and a touch sticky. Personally I loved it, but this one really took me some time to get into. tiggmtl (4178), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Sep 3, 2005 Grainy caramel, herbal, citrus, lemon aroma. Opaque dull brown body with low off-white head that diminishes rapidly to a slight ring. Grainy sweet malt flavour with some vinous fruitiness. Plenty of toffee and caramel sweetness. Medium body with low carbonation that doesn’t last. A bit cloying and sticky for style. Sampled at the Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Beer Fest 2005. BBB63 (3843), La Porte, Indiana, USA Jan 28, 2006 On tap at brewery: Brownish hue with reddish highlights topped by a small head and some lace. The aroma has notes of caramel and toffee, bready and biscuit, plum, apple, herbal hops, and dusty esters. The taste is mostly malt with some twangy fruit added on top. A very light bitterness is found deep within and on the finish. A one-diminsional bock with little depth. The feel is smooth and slightly warming. A bit disappointing as it seems not to want to step to plate, too reserved on all fronts.
