A geographical approach to the werewolf legends results in the identification of a major werewolf area stretching from mid-Germany into the Netherlands and Belgium. With this in mind, we have created a strong, dark, spiced using ingredients from those regions. Brewed with Midnight Wheat, warming spices, and a hint of brown sugar, the Violin Monster is black as night and packs a punch at 9.3%. Unleash your inner beast with Violin Monster Dark Ale, but beware…. it finishes with a bite!

Sarsaparilla bubble gum. Hint of black licorice. Alcoholic. Don’t like. Strong flavor.

Smells fairly sweet, hint of coffee. Gorgeous black with a tan head. Up front vanilla, transitions to chocolate and ends in coffee. Deep, well rounded stout. Very, very good. 2015 is better though.

Dark black color with thin light brown head and moderate lacing. Aroma is huge, spicy and malty, with raisins and sweetness. Flavor has strong spices and little alcohol presence. Very tasty and rich.

Dark brown, thick, and tastes like a cross between a grisette and an imperial stout. A bit of spruce, lots of chocolate.

Deep dark brown body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, oats, coffee, toffee, light herbs and a hint of soy sauce. Medium-bodied; Strong malt flavour with coffee, rich toffee, herbs, coffee, nuts, earth and even some licorice - pungent throughout with a nice complexity. Aftertaste shows some grain and herbal flavours with a lot of coffee, cream and burnt sugar flavour throughout - nice and deep. Overall, a nice beer for the style and one that blurs the lines - great to sample, and well worth having in this season that down this far south is more warm than chilly. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Siciliano’s in Grand Rapids, Michigan on 11-September-2015 for US$2,29 sampled at home in Washington on 30-October-2015.

Pour on tap at HopCat, dark brownish black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of toast, roast, licorice, cinnamon, clove, ginger, some wheat, fruity notes, touch of brownie. Taste was a mix of sweet dark fruit, plum, cinnamon, clove, ginger into some yeast, roasted coffee, chocolate, some vanilla, finishing slightly sweet, slightly dry.

Pours a jet black with a thin, long-lasting tan foam head. Aroma is plenty of spices, such as nutmeg, but there’s also a medicinal aroma that sort of dominates. Flavor is roast, chocolate, nutmeg, other spices, and hints of that medicinal taste. Has the look, taste, and feel of a spiced stout. Quite good, but the medicinal flavors detract from the overall beer.

The pumpkin pie spices ("warming spices") are quite prominent in the aromas. Good malt base and a nice balancing generalized bitterness. Some roasted coffee and chocolate flavors. Very dark brown color with a sparse tan head. Fairly sweet, nicely balanced by the bitterness. Fairly full bodied, much more in the stout tradition than your typical autumn ale. Fairly creamy texture; average carbonation and a long finish of roasted coffee, chocolate and spices. Overall this is one of the best "autumn ales" I have had. I think the heavier bodied stout-like nature of this beer handles the heavy dose of spices better than most autumn ales, with the beer not getting overwhelmed by the spices.

This beer has a sugary smell with a spice that I can’t place right now. It has a great taste that at 9.5 % pushes you to the next level.

This beer is delicious. I taste molasses and brown sugar initially with almost no after taste. Would drink again ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle in Grand Haven shared with Randy. Pours very dark brown with one finger of tan head. Aroma is lots of pumpkin spice nutmeg cardamom. Yuck. Thick and syrupy. Spices overwhelm the beer. Nasty. Drain pour. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
