COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Arcadia introduces the newest addition to its stable of world class British-style ales. Brewed with the legendary Maris Otter Malt from Scotland, this beer is full-bodied and brings a taste of sweet caramel together with a hint of toasted malt that's well balenced with a solid presence of premium American aromatic flower leaf hops. From the package: "Then let us toast John Barleycorn, Each man a glass in hand; And may his great posterity ne'er fail in old Scotland!"

Dark red/brown, tan head - excellent lacing. Aroma is sweet malty bread with a little hops. Taste is sweet breads and earthy spice, some herbal hops in the lingering sticky finish. Easy to drink, goes well with food - especially pizza. Found this at the Acme in Hudson

Bottle... Hazy amber ale with orange highlights and a fizzy, off-white head. Terrific retention. Malty & floral aroma with notes of biscuit, black tea, brown sugar, clover honey and sugar cookie. Sweet & malty flavor up front with touches of citrus fruit, pine, toffee and lemon. Adequate bitterness on the backside with notes of citrus rind, evergreen and zest of lemon. Medium-bodied and creamy with pillow-soft carbonation. Lengthy, lightly bitter, grassy finish.

Silphium (2718) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - APR 28, 2005
Hazy copper body, thin off-white (or buff) head. Earthy, toasty, caramely aroma with a touch of soapiness that characterizes many of Arcadia’s beers. Flavorwise, this beer is stuffed full of earthy, woody, herbal hops which have the upper hand over the toasty, caramely malts. Quite resiny and sweet, with hints of the soapy character hinted at in the aroma (and also detected by the previous reviewer). Medium-bodied, with a long, pleasant hoppy aftertaste. Rather medicinal. Follows in the footsteps of its elder brother, the Batch 999, and I recommend fans of the former seek this offering.

   AROMA 6/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 14/20
AlchemistZ (493) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - APR 27, 2005
Thin, off-white head, slightly hazy orangish-amber color. Aroma contains melted butter, some dishwashing soap (palmolive), fruity esters, and cirtusy, mixed fruit hops. Flavor is a very rich combination of candyish malt sweetness and tangy, earthy hops with a sherberty, vanillin underlayer. This is almost too heavy on the palate. Hop bitterness hits at mid-palate then rides under the malt into a very long finish.
