2.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 olympian (107) - USA - MAR 17, 2002
A well-made craft beer, but well short of what an English-style pale should be. There is too much predominace of the malt over the hops, for one thing.
There is an unmistakeable taste of dark choclate on the tongue with every sip - charming to many; annoying to me.
I’ve had several good brews from this brave little company in Cereal City, but this wasn’t one of my favorites.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 legion242 (1870) - Richardson, Texas, USA - MAR 9, 2002
Hazy orange in color; VERY thick head with good rockiness; the nose has lots of yummy maltiness and tiny hint of bubblegum. Great mouthfeel- very round and fluffy. Hops are mild. Not very ’deep’ in it profile. A very nice session beer. Satisfying in a very ’beery’ sort of way.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Gusler (2654) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAR 7, 2002
Pours a nice orange-amber color, decent head, beige in color, dissipates quickly, nice lace is present. Malt nose dominates, the start slightly sweet, thin top, finish has a fair hop presence, dry, moderate carbonation, which produces a fair bit of acidity. Once again, a decent and drinkable beer, but nothing to ’Rave’ about.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 msutequilaman (84) - Troy, Michigan, USA - MAR 2, 2002
Cloudy caramel color. Short-lived, albeit, creamy head. The malt definately comes through. The finish showed both some sweetness and some bitterness, if that makes any sense. Truth be told, I think it’s a pretty good brew, but I’m a fan of the style.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 labattblueleaf (225) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - JAN 15, 2002
I got this for my collection as the guy on the front is pretty cool looking. Too bad they couldn’t have bottled him up and shipped him instead. This garbage would be best not served at all. Very bitter for my taste.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 MrRain00 (37) - Columbus, Indiana, USA - DEC 28, 2001
I’ve been too harsh on Arcadia. This is the third one in a row I’ve liked after a long Arcadia dry spell. This is actually a great, dry-ish beer.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 21iceman40 (1732) - vienna, West Virginia, USA - SEP 3, 2001
Bad taste, though it was a solid beer. Mabybe its just me, but this stuff just came up a little too short.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Drew Blood (151) - Mt.Prospect, Illinois, USA - AUG 25, 2001
Being an avid fisherman(normally over 60 days a year) I was enticed, but my expectations were low(kinda’ like buying the latest lure, because it looks so cool). I was really surprised by this one. Nicely hopped; a bit on the malty side but evenly balanced and refreshing. Try it, you may be pleasantly surprised too.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 hennes (932) - Fountain, Michigan, USA - AUG 23, 2001
A malty brew in which the hops are hiding way back in the deep russet corners. An interesting complexity that ends as an aftertaste a tad unpleasant.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 TAR (2236) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - AUG 20, 2001
UPDATED: MAY 18, 2005 Fairly buttery aroma with earthy Goldings. Feisty carbonation. Lightly toasty with a spicy-accented earthy hop twinge. Finishes mineral-laden and leathery, but the body continually traverses into complete nothingness.
