COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This big beer has a beautiful malt character to accompany the intense hop profile. Plus a hint of roast character.

Draught at TJ’s: Aroma of malt, hops, pine, resin, and some roasting. Poured very dark brown/very deep orange in color with a medium-sized, creamy, dense, brown head that diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Good lacing. Flavor is light to medium sweet and medium bitter. Tastes of malt, roasting, hops, pine, and resin. Medium body. Oily, then lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, hop, pine, resin finish is lightly dry. 8.5%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

[4110-20111112] Tap. Maple-caramel-infused roasted bread aroma. Clear, dark red black body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head and some thick lacing. More mapled bread in the flavour with a bitter bite in the finish. Medium-full body. Seems in great shape, like the maple sugar hints with the sweetness that usually accompanies it. (7/4/7/3/16) 3.7

On tap at Ashley’s Ann Arbor. Pours really dark brown to almost black with really light tan head. Aromas of bright citrus and piney hops, with some roast but a really nice hop presence. Flavor up front Is nice amount of roasty malts, with little bit chocolate, tons if piney and bitter hops, and there is some heat from the abc as well. Nice big black IPA. Really nice beer.

2011-11-12. Very dark brown, soft creamy beige head and lace. First sip is really strange. Soft sweet malt, fruity character, bit of sugar. Fruit that I can’t put my finger on. Caramel/brown sugar notes, hint of something that is not cherry but that’s the word I come up with. Mild aroma, fruit, mild dusty malt, ephemeral whispers of cocoa. I like it but it is not what I expected from a black IPA at all, and not particularly bitter. On tap at Ashley’s, Ann Arbor

On tap at the French Laundry. Oh man, this is good. A fresh grassy, roasty flavor that was well balanced with a wonderful aroma.

On tap at Ashleys Ann Arbor. Awesome black IPA--huge nose of citrus hops. Bold hop flavor back nicely by the dark malt. Really enjoyed this

tap at Hopcat last summer, 8.5% abv - Dark amber brown pour with a lasting off-white head. It smells of roast malt and citrus hops. The flavor is very bitter but supported well by the dark roasted malt. There’s a long bitter finish for this medium to full bodied brew. Very good.

On tap. Pours a dark brown with a white head. Brown sugar aroma with roastiness. Flavor has light coffee, roastiness, and floral hops, solid hop bitterness. It’s decent.

On draft at The Green Well. Pours a dark brown color with an off-white head that leaves a little lacing down the glass. Nose is some-what muted, but I can smell some citrusy and resinous hops, maybe a little pine. There’s also some chocolate, roasted malt, caramel malt. Medium bodied, pretty well carbonated, with a decent finish. Definitely hop forward in the flavor with a strong, but not overly assertive bitterness. As it warmed, the caramel malt started to upstage the hops. A little bit of roast in the finish. Being a double, it’s a little out of the style of a black IPA, esp. regarding the sweetness and body. It was enjoyable, though. A good effort by Arcardia to work with this emerging style.
