4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. What a brew. Pours a deep brown toward purple with a thin khaki ring of head that left a thick wall of lace on the glass. Very complex nose involving sappy walnut tree, rich ruby port, molasses and assorted dark fruits, some grape wine-like character, cherry pipe tobacco, barbecue and soy, and some alcohol vapors. Very sweet in flavor but also pretty bitter, though probably not enough to balance. Full bodied, sticky, with a long warm fruity wine-like finish. Really awesome brew, happy to try. Probably should have shared, though, as this rocked me to no surprise.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Thanks Scott! Dark caramel color, minimal head/lace. Smells of booze, oak, oxidation, and bourbon. Thin; needs way more body. Decent taste I guess; doesn't resonate. Not bad, but def forgettable.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
(Thanks Chris "Budznsudz")
A- Bourbon, chocolate, caramel, malty, oakey, sweet.
A- Dark red black color, dark liquid, off white head.
T- Bourbon, chocolate, cherries, red wine, caramel, vanilla.
P- Full body, sharp texture, mild carbonation, smooth finish with a slight bite.
O- My first barely wine. This one had been aged for over a year and a half. I think the aging definitely mellowed this one out. Wow, was this good. Reminded me of sipping on Jim Beam. The flavors blended extremely well and everything about this just screamed drink me.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Aroma has notes of bourbon, brown sugar, caramel, dark dried fruits, toasted malts and oak. Dark rusty amber hue with a small off-white head that mostly diminished and left no lace. Flavor is very sweet and bitter. Palate is very full bodied and oily soft. Great Barley Wine that is balanced well with the bourbon. The aromas became much more complex as it warmed. Great one from Arcadia.

Bottle shared with Chudwick the C.H.U.D. of the New York sewers. Whiskey shakes at the first sniff. I get some vanilla, brown sugar, and bourbon. My poor dog is having pushups done by his ass by a toddler. Remembering a time before children and friends‘ children and this thing called freedom that I never cherished enough, but should have. Do you remember a time? Like a child molester use to sing about.

UPDATED: NOV 19, 2014 The Barrel Aged Cereal Killer marks a craft beer milestone for me. In addition to being my first barley wine, it’s the first beer that I’ve had that’s been aged for more than a year. This brew had an aroma of cocoa and bourbon. The flavor was pure awesomeness. Lots of rich chocolate, caramel, and booze. No doubt, the aging contributed to this brew’s smoothness and sublime sweetness. This malty, boozy ale is, well, a killer.

12oz bottle. Nearly headless caramel pour. Nose of sweet malt, bourbon, vanilla, toffee, and caramel. Taste is really nice with a great balance of toffee, vanilla, coconut, and bourbon. Not overly hot at all. Mouthfeel is a little thin compared to others in this style but the sweetness is really well done.

Overall I had high hopes for this one, especially after smelling it, but the taste just has too much alcohol up front at the moment. It gets considerably better as it warms up, but it is very strong. It’s a little over carbonated but the nose is great. I’d rank this slightly behind the BA stout, and way behind the BA porter, though I could see this being much better with more time on it. Will hold onto my other bottle for a while, at least a year.
