A dark brown beer with a red tinge and a small tan head. The aroma is alcohol, prunes, and anise. The flavor is roasted, caramel, overripe fruit, wood, and a slight bitterness. I like an imperial that is not so overpowering, and this one fits the bill nicely.

(Rating #3775)

From a 22oz bottle from Pick’s Liquors poured into a snifter. The head is a very dark tan, frothy with good lacing. The color is black, very dark black. The aroma is sweet, caramel and whisky tones. Slightly sweet and heavily bitter with a slight aftertaste of salt. Full bodied with a thick texture, it has soft carbonation with a long finish. Overall, this beer is awesome. You can definite taste the oak barrels. At 5 bucks a bottle, if you can still find this one its a definite buy!

drank this in the dark, and was already pretty buzzed at the time. not much body, thin mouthfeel. i wonder what the actual abv on this is, it didn’t taste very high.

The beer pours a dark brown with a light tan head, rising only a about a finger, but not much retention or lacing. The aroma is light and sweet with a little vanilla. The taste is shockinly differntly than the aroma as it i s mostly all bitter coffee. Its really offputting because its so unexpected, but its also pretty boring. The feel is ok full bodied, but rough and bitter with a warm finish. Overall, this an ok porter, nothing special

22 oz bottle, 2008. Dark brown with a creamy tan head. Nose is mocha, bourbon and oak, some tobacco. Satisfying medium body with a lively tang. Taste is caramel, coffee, grape and bourbon. Barrel aging definitely enhances the base brew. Quite good.

Pours a deep dark brown color with a thin cream-colored head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, and dark fruit. Chocolate, coffee, vanilla flavor with a solid presence of bourbon. Really nice lacing. Very good beer!

2007 vintage. Dark pour with a brown head. Aroma was oak, roasted malt, Taste is roasted malt, sweet, woody, chocolate. A strange balance of wood and sweetness. A little sour. This was my last beer rated in 2010.
