Aroma is dry malts, a hint of roast and barrel aging/fruit, very English. The flavor is dark malts, barrel aging/fruit, caramel and a dry/tangy/alcoholic finish.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Dark brown color with a decently foamy off-white head. Smells and tastes strongly like bourbon. Has a full-bodied feel and goes down pretty smooth. A nice drink to warm you up, but it is definitely strong.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Picked this up at Binny’s LP for $7 a bottle. enjoyed at wine stemware.
A - Frothy espresso head. almost pitch black.
S - Smells like creamy vanilla, lactose, espresso beans and cream pie.
T - Taste is pretty acidic with lots of coffee and oak tannins. not too smooth. creaminess is nice, clean bourbon taste throughout but way too oaky for my taste
M - Creamy, dense and leaves an oaky charcoal taste
O - NOt bad and 12% is very well hidden

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Jet black with exceedingly thin light tan head. Aroma is bourbon barrel, bakers chocolate and develops a marshmallow note as it warms. Taste follows suit and adds a tiny roasty note on the finish. Moderate alcohol punch. Slick velvety mouthfeel that coats the mouth. Minimal carbonation. Nice beer but can't help but feel like it's missing something that would make it great.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
From the 12/2013 3R6P gathering +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a small foamy beige head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was cherry, fruity pepples, sugar, cola and cream. The flavor was bourbon, coconut, cherry, brown sugar, cream and marzipan. Short coconut and cream finish. Moderately full bodied and creamy. Decent.

12/23/13. 12oz bottle thanks to polomagnifico! Black pour with a small tan head. Sweet, lightly boozy aroma, woody, plenty of bourbon. Lightly sweet flavor, touches of booze, caramel, vanilla, bourbon, burns the tongue, some dark fruits, lingers ashy. Tasty enough.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared by drowland at xmas, pours black with a really thin oily brown head. the aroma has quite a bit of booze on the nose with lots of bourbon and a hint of vanilla and sweetness with even a little bit of smoke in there as well, the flavor has quite a bit of chocolate on the front end with some ash and tobacco notes in the finish, doesn’t taste as boozy as it smells, good, just didn’t blow me away.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours pretty thick and the darkest brown possible, just shy of black. Thin mocha head vanishes in a flash to just a rim of bubbles. Alcohol visible on the sides if the glass.
Smell is almost straight bourbon. Alcohol, faint vanilla, faint oak and faint malts. If I really strain I can get some chocolate and raisin.
Yikes. This is a sipper. Really hot. Bourbon. Underlying malts, dark chocolate and vanilla, but mainly just bourbon. You taste every bit of the 12%. Too hot. There's a faint something like raisin or prune as it gets closer to room temp but too hot to really detect. Not a great finish, again because of the strong alcohol. Could use more than the 50 IBUs.
Feels good in the mouth, definitely gets that part just right for the style.
If Goose Island BCBS is a great example of smoothness and balance for the bourbon aged styles, this is a great example for something that needs time in the cellar to cool off a bit. Probably a great choice for bourbon fans.
