12/23/13. 12oz bottle thanks to polomagnifico! Black pour with a small tan head. Sweet, lightly boozy aroma, woody, plenty of bourbon. Lightly sweet flavor, touches of booze, caramel, vanilla, bourbon, burns the tongue, some dark fruits, lingers ashy. Tasty enough.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared by drowland at xmas, pours black with a really thin oily brown head. the aroma has quite a bit of booze on the nose with lots of bourbon and a hint of vanilla and sweetness with even a little bit of smoke in there as well, the flavor has quite a bit of chocolate on the front end with some ash and tobacco notes in the finish, doesnít taste as boozy as it smells, good, just didnít blow me away.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours pretty thick and the darkest brown possible, just shy of black. Thin mocha head vanishes in a flash to just a rim of bubbles. Alcohol visible on the sides if the glass.
Smell is almost straight bourbon. Alcohol, faint vanilla, faint oak and faint malts. If I really strain I can get some chocolate and raisin.
Yikes. This is a sipper. Really hot. Bourbon. Underlying malts, dark chocolate and vanilla, but mainly just bourbon. You taste every bit of the 12%. Too hot. There's a faint something like raisin or prune as it gets closer to room temp but too hot to really detect. Not a great finish, again because of the strong alcohol. Could use more than the 50 IBUs.
Feels good in the mouth, definitely gets that part just right for the style.
If Goose Island BCBS is a great example of smoothness and balance for the bourbon aged styles, this is a great example for something that needs time in the cellar to cool off a bit. Probably a great choice for bourbon fans.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep brown with strong red hue in the pour. Eighth inch of carmel colored head. Aroma of strong smoked oak, spirits, sweet strong molasses. Average carbonation, oily mouthfeel, smokey dry finish. Flavors of brown sugar/molasses, charred smokey peaty oak, definite whiskey, just a bit sharsh. Really nice barrel aged beer, strong flavors of oak, whiskey and molasses.

Time to give this a try.
Pours a coffee black with a broken sheet of light tan foam. Nose is strong, smelled it from a couple feet away - lovely. vanilla, caramel, honey, bourbon, hints of mineral and amaretto. Really would place the nose here on par with some of the best out there. Flavor is sweet and carries much of the character from the nose: vanilla, caramel and amaretto. Plenty of roasted malts in the flavor along a hint of cocoa. Carb is about right with moderately subdued, but the body is thin for the beer. Really a nice beer, and Iím glad Iíve tried it. I would love to drink more of it if it was around. Really a diamond.
