The Baltic-style porter has a robust malt character and a slight herbal hop bitterness. Aged for 12 months in 10 year old Kentucky bourbon oak barrels, this alluring dark liquid features appealing undertones of vanilla, oak, cocoa and coffee. This aging occurs in abandoned mines in Michigan, at a constant temperature of 45F.

12 oz. bottle to CBS snifter. Fairly opaque brown as I watch it slide out of the bottle yet it settles much darker with a smidgen of the aforementioned opaqueness creeping on the perimeter, yes folks this was once a porter. I had a few of these fresh out of the gate and thought they were hot and overly bourbon-ey (I did not rate at the time). Quarter inch off-brown head that dissipates quickly but never entirely disappears, smells of vanilla bean, whiskey, wood, and mocha. Taste is sweet and bourbon, medium mouthfeel, low carbonation, finish is long coffee. This is much better than the younger ones I have drank, I can see this possibly even getting better, however very nice right now. The heat has really dropped off, the bourbon is still in the forefront yet it seems like its on a journey to integrate with its friends. This is a nice winter sipper look forward to re-rating this a few winters from now.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a head of foamy finely sized brown colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a no visible carbonation opaque except at the edges dark black brown colored body and an excellent lacing. The nice aroma was bourbon. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish with a lingering mild roasted malt aftertaste. The strong flavor contained notes of cucumber roasted malt bourbon and chocolate. Delicious and one I would certainly like to have again.

Black pour with tan head than fades to leave a thin film on tol of beer. Sweet aroma. Flavor is nice with vanilla, chocolate, and coffee with a nice bourbon touch. Palate is light enough to not weigh yo down but is not overly thin. Good body for a porter. One of my wife’s better random purchases.

12 oz bottle from Tavour. Nose is chocolate, light bourbon, and vanilla. Black with a medium tan head. Flavor is bourbony, with vanilla and chocolate. Nicely flavored, better than the aroma by itself.

(bottle) clear, bright, dark brown colour with a small beige head; aroma starts with wet wood, jam, develops into vanilla, dried fruit; rich, balanced flavour with a long, light bitter finish, well hidden alcohol

Review is of a bottle that was aged roughly 2 years Pours a black body with walnut highlights. Head is sand colored and 1/5 of an inch. Head retention and lacing were pretty good. Smell is of molasses, brown sugar, charred oak, fudge, and slight bourbon. Hops arent present but alcohol is definitely there. Taste is pretty sweet for a barrel aged baltic porter, getting molasses, chocolate covered cocoa beans, some vanilla and oak. Alcohol is smooth for a 12% barrel aged porter. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a nice frothy head that stuck around for a long time. Carbonation levels were good also. Overall this was an amazing beer that kind of took me by surprise. Tons of flavor melded beautifully with the bourbon barrel. Alcohol was restrained but still had a nice warming presence. Dont know if aging two years mattered that much but will try getting some fresh ones to compare.

On tap at patricks in moon. Big & black. Somewhat neutral aroma. Big strong initial boozy impact. A little more rude than I was expecting. Big volatile kick in the jaw. Quite ruff indeed. Coarse around the edges. Difficult, almost like floor stripper. If there is any co2, I’d say its well hidden by this nasty impact. A strong over th top alky beer experience fer sure. Did not like.

Pours black with low tan head. Aroma of bourbon, lots of it, chocolate, some roasted malt, dried fruits, muscovado. Taste is sweet and sticky, bourbon and chocolate, with a lingering alcohol warming finish. Rich, smooth body with soft carbonation.
