keith0718 (151), Olathe, Kansas, USA Mar 29, 2008 This is different. My initial reaction was negative, but as I kept sipping the beer grew on me. It looks beautiful - dark with nice, frothy head. Flavor has hints of whiskey, molasses, clove, raisin, wood, and licorice. Heavy, but pleasant hops. Palate is nice--a touch oily with nice carbonation. Whiskey aftertaste.
alexsdad06 (677), Ohio, USA Oct 12, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a small beige head. The aroma is dark moderately roasted malts, dark fruits, bourbon, oak/wood with moderate sweetness. The flavor has a fairly large amount of bourbon and wood. The roasted malt is there, but not in the forefront. Medium bodied at best, very smooth drinking. I’m not sure how old the bottle was. DougShoemaker (2614), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 30, 2008 Aroma of dark chocolate, smokey and woody (dah) black, with a tiny tan head. Taste is is a smokey, woody malt, burnt toast and strong coffee. Medium bodied, well balanaced and BITTER! Wonderful! Thank You Torontoblue. T2Tool (272), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA Aug 2, 2008 Poured from a 22-oz bottle a deep, dark brown with an espresso colored head. Smell of vanilla and roasted malt. Taste of chocolate, roasted malt and faint hint of bourbon. The beer did go down smooth. ChainGangGuy (1602), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jul 10, 2008 Appearance: Pours a near black body with some reddish hints to it and capped by a well-sized, beige head.
Smell: Dark malt aroma, predominately, with a touch of chocolate and molasses. Lesser notes of vanilla and oak. To my dismay, there’s also a teensy, worrisome touch of sourness up in this bouqet.
Taste: Dark maltiness with tastes of chocolate and a few globs of gooey molasses. Restrained sweetness. some dark fruits. Minor hints of vanilla, oak, and light brown sugar. There’s a noticeable bit of sourness within. All the flavors make a curtain call in the slightly warming finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Not too bad beyond that sour twang in the flavor. I’m sure it’s nothing a little tinkering and adjusting couldn’t cure. unclemattie (1662), Georgia, USA Jul 3, 2008 22oz bottle. Robust porter, pours black. Light tan head. sweet aroma of toast, some maple. Flavor is sweet malt. Lots of roast. Nice bourbon barrel notes. Cherries, some fusel. Tasty beer.
