Nice balance of cocoa and coffee, very creamy, just the right amount of sweetness, and alcohol. Nothing intense about it, but not a train wreck either. PJClarke (728), London, Greater London, England

IMPENETRABLE DARKNESS.
Roasted but somehow light aromas.Coffee and burnt porridge. Slightly metallic but not to an unpleasant degree. Sweet and green in the mouth. Lovely flavours. Yummy plums, coffee, coconut, chocolates and something almost tropical. This would make a grand introduction into the darker beers. bleeng (601), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Apr 29, 2009 2006 bottle. Black color, brown head. Light chocolate, effervescent nose. Lighter body and some chocolate flavors-seems to have lost some flavors over time. A bit alcoholy considering the lowish ABV. Not great but I expected more...uummpphh... nbutler11 (779), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 28, 2009 On tap at Ginger Man in Manhattan. Pours a roasted black color with a nice brown head. Smells predominalty of semi-sweet cocoa and coffee. Tastes the same with added notes of black licorice, cream, and spiced pear. Eljefe is right about the silky body - this goes down almost too easy for a stout. Well done. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 24, 2009 Bottle. Brownish color with a somewhat tan head on it. Smell is full of chocolate and some sweet other stuff. Coffee too. Eh, not really much on the smell. Taste was good, too cold at first, but after it warmed it really wasnt all that much better. Thin, weak, some roasted tastes, but not a whole lot. Its ok, but its not the best thing I have drank. I really expected more from this one. ElJefe (553), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 12, 2009 Black pour with a thick light brown head. Aroma of cocoa and roasted coffee and light floral hoppiness. Cocoa and coffee are the most dominate qualities in the flavor, but there are some vinous notes along with a lactose twang. Silky body, maybe just a touch too thin for my liking. Interesting, but I couldn’t see drinking more than one glass of this. Strykzone (1505), Wood River, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 12, 2009 An almost black pour with plenty of red highlights and a nice thick tan head. Decent retention. The aroma is chocolate with roasted notes. Flavor is also chocolate with some smoke effect. There is also some dark fruit and there is plenty of sweetness. Finish offers anise and less chocolate. It is less robust that earlier in the glass. The feel is amazingly zesty with a big zing due to the generous use of hops. It is also quite rich in the mouth but warms a bit thinner. This is a very tasty beer with plenty of good things going on. bigtaster (184), Grand Rapids, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 10, 2009 Coffee and chocolate notes in the aroma but a little on the light side. The flavor is a lot of good dark chocolate, not much complexity. It is a little lighter than I would like on the palate especially for a stout. Enjoyable and different.
