lightning9191 (82), Christiansburg, Virginia, USA Apr 13, 2008 You can definitely smell the molasses in the aroma of this beer. It has a thin body and a small head. I don’t like the flavor on this one. It seems as though something is out of balance or something. The best way I can describe this flavor is slightly metallic. I don’t want another bottle of this beer ever....unless I somehow opened a defective one.
blipp (961), Grand Island, New York, USA Dec 2, 2008 Bottle. Pours near black with a tan head. Sweet milk chocolate aroma with roasted malt and coffee. Sweet maly flavor, light roast, chocolate. Smooth and drinkable. ruggedman (431), Portland, Maine, USA Dec 1, 2008 On Tap at Novare Res. Pours a dark black with tan/beige head. Head recedes quickly and turns to a ring. Aroma is roasted chocolate and coffee notes. Flavor is pretty much straight up nice bitter/unsweetened chocolate. The complete domination of chocolate in this beer is unmistakable. Boom. Svesse (1877), Hässelby, Sweden Nov 29, 2008 (Bottle, Oliver Twist, Stockholm, 9 Nov 2008) Black colour with brief, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with dark chocolate, coffee, burnt sugar, mocha and chocolate truffles. Roasted, malty taste with notes of cocoa, dark chocolate, strong black coffee, molasses (or dark rhum) and a decent cocoa bitterness in the finish. Medium body, fairly sweet. Nice and chocolatey porter/stout. In short: sweet cocoa and espresso. kalkmanc (2), Holland, Michigan, USA does not count Nov 29, 2008 Poured from a 12 oz. bottle served into an English pint. Sight: Pours a chocolaty brown and finishes very dark, not a very large head, but is a creamy brown color. Smell: No distinct aroma for me. Taste: Cannot really taste the chocolate. Initial impressions aren’t that great. Only distinct flavor is a hint of roast. Not the thickness I was hoping for. Little to no lacing. Overall a pretty average beer. Not like most stouts I have tasted. bigrond (886), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 27, 2008 I liked this beer. Dark and tastey. but it was lacking that certain something that would bring into the company of some of the more elite stouts. A good show for Arcadia but not the best, by far.
I’ll pass on this the next time and stick with a proven winner.
