2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20Bottle and draught, Spring 2008 at Sunset Grill. Very thick, viscous-looking mahogany-to-black body with a dense tan head. Tar and chocolate rise up from the liquid, with cinnamon??? and other such spices coming in as well. Very rich nose to it, with vanilla as an afterthought. In the mouth it’s somewhat less chewy/thick than expected, with a more dried-out mouthfeel, thanks in part to the spiciness. They don’t really say anything about spice additions, but man is this stuff full of cinnamon. To the point of it being way too much. Chocolate element is well-done and would have been highly pleasant without the dry, fatiguing spiciness. Vanilla and sweet caramel round out the finish, with little in the way of roast or bitterness. Some floral hop notes are appreciated but lend little to the overall character of the beer. Too spicy!

Sample at the brewpub on 3/29/13. Darkest brown pour with a medium tan head. Aroma of butter, chocolate and quasi-Belgian esters. Malty and buttery flavor with chocolate and roast before a funky finish.

Dark black color with a medium tan head. Chocolate coffee nose.smooth, but lacking in carbonation. Burnt grains. Nice beer, but missing something.

Backlog rating 12-31-2008 (Bottle shared by patrick767 at Fort Wayne RB Gathering) This beer pours a tan medium sized fizzy head that mostly diminished, floaties, one ring of lacing, opaque body, and a dark brown hue. The Aroma is roasty, burnt, malty, semi-sweet, and chocolate. The Flavor mimics the Aroma. The Palate is fairly smooth and this is a medium bodied beer. All-in-all, this beer is quaffable and has a nice balance between the Aroma and the Flavor.

Bottle. Near black pour withedo, beige head. Sour, malt and tootsie roll aromas. Chocolate flavor that coats the roof of your mouth with a sour/bitterish finish.

Opaque black with a small.beige head. Aroma is.restrained chocolate. Strong black chocolate with some acidulated notes. light palate and short bitter aftertaste. interesting but not my thing.
