Cobra (1032), In the snake pit, Maryland, USA May 29, 2008 22 oz. brown bomber bottle. No freshness date seen. Poured out a black chocolate color, with red highlights. Has a sticky mocha colored head. Aromas are chocolate, licorice, malted milk balls, burnt sugars. Flavors are licorice, malted milk balls, burnt chocolate nibs, roasted malts, slightly sweet. Alcohol is well hidden. Thick mouthfeel, decent body. OK beer overall. Certainly deserves a higher rating.
MAP (868), Lakewood, Ohio, USA Sep 6, 2008 I almost forgot about this nice little niche of stoutdom: foreign stouts. I really got my nose down in this one and got a whole lot more that just by passing my nose over it. A good swirl around the glass brought out some sweet cream aroma, a woody-sugar sweetness that reminds me of Weyerbacher Prophecy, and then there is the normal caramel, malty chocolate smell. The flavor is a little lacking, tastes a slight bit sour, but still a little malty. Magic_dave6 (3756), London, Greater London, England Sep 4, 2008 Bottle at chris_o’s teabagging contest. Alround rating: Coffee, cola, sweet roasted malts, yet thin and not really doing much. ante (2503), Stockholm (Bromma), Sweden Sep 3, 2008 Bottled at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Pours out in an almost black colour with a low pale brown head. Sweetish and rather milky aroma of coffee, roasted nuts and cocoa. Medium-bodied with a creamy flavour of milky chocolate and cocoa-powder. Quite one-dimensional and sticky. Quite sugary finish of chocolate sauce and roasted almonds. Lacking finesse and real drinkability. heemer77 (3669), Savannah, Missouri, USA Sep 3, 2008 Ok, I had this one other time and it was infected. So I am now getting around to rating from a more fresh bomber. the aroma is the obvious cocoa with some light roast walnut notes. The taste is cheap milk chocolate with some cheap coffee. There is a strong iced tea finish with some pecans. This doe snot taste as good as I described. A thin mouthfeel and light roast help to make this boring. Geth_in_beer (671), Nova Scotia, Canada Aug 31, 2008 Bottle. Strong coffee, roasted malt aroma. Black in colour with a chocolate milkshake colour head., a little thin. Smooth texture with a delicate finish. A little to thin for my liking in the finish, would like it a bit stronger. Overall a good chocolate stout but many better ones out there.
