ChainGangGuy (2522), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Mar 24, 2008 Appearance: Pours a hazy, amber body with a small, frothy white head.
Smell: Largely hoppy aroma with notes of tangerines and apricots. Slight hints of pale malts and booze.
Taste: Flash of malts with a crystal malt sweetness that remains intentionally insufficient, leaving the palate wide open to a hop attack. Fruity hops with a real tanginess to the flavors. Moderate bitterness, somewhat citric. Finishes as bitter as you’d expect and decidedly tangy.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Slight stickiness to the mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Good for those looking for a peppy Double IPA who’s hops don’t take a backseat to the malts. heemer77 (4294), Savannah, Missouri, USA Mar 24, 2008 Bottle purchased at Lukas Liquors in KC. Medium godl body with a slightly off white head that has hints of yellow. The aroma has some massive grapefruit and musty perfume. There is also a little bit of strawberry candy behind that and it’s a hint. The taste is very strong grapefruit with some bread crust. There is also a little bit of roasted peanut character. A nice IIPA, but not special. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Mar 20, 2008 Courtesy of hopscotch. A golden orange pour with slightly off white head. A very light hop aroma and malt comes through pretty hard. Solid citrus hop profile but the malt seems to win out. Smooth even palate and carbonation. A very fine beer that is just a tad lite on the hops that would push it over the top. thanks Eric pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA Mar 18, 2008 3-11-08 bottle thanks to drewbeerme!
Orange amber color with a super thick foamy off white head and good lacing. Great smell of honey, caramel and hops. Flavor is very nice as well - with a decent amount of bitterness in there. Thick creamy palate that is smooth and fitting. Hard to place this as a IIPA because it is so easy to drink and mild. Overall, another great one from drewbeerme - thanks! Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Mar 14, 2008 Bottle courtesy of drewbeerme. Pour is a clear amber with a minimal white head and decent lacing. Nose is citrus hops and sweet caramel malts. Palate is grapefruit and pine with a sweet malt background. Slight bitter finish that doesn’t last long. Decent IIPA. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Mar 12, 2008 bottle courtesy of drewbeerme. Pours a slightly hazy orange amber color with a big lasting offwhite head. Smell is big sweet fruity fresh hops. Awesome nose. Taste is much milder, but still nice. Light bitterness, fruity sweetness, nice moderate hop flavor and mild bitterness. Soft carbonation and slightly creamy body. Flavor is lacking a hop punch that is really needed and expected. EASILY the mildest Impreial IPA I’ve ever had. I thought it was mild for a regular IPA... Wow. Still incredibly drinkable for that reason, and the 9% is well hidden. Nice beer. hombrepalo (726), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 12, 2008 Bottle. I loved this beer! Poured a glowing amber color, lighthead similar to arcadia hopmouth. Crisp refreshing hops and malts. I felt special drinking this one. The super hops were incredible. Not quite like Hopslam but still one of the top beers I have had. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Mar 11, 2008 Bottled. Poured clear, sparkling lighter orange with a stately cap of off-white head. The aroma had a sweet, succulent blend of hops above all else (orange peel, perfume, deeper grapefruit, and perhaps some Amarillo).. toffee and pale malts backed ’em up. The flavor was led by slightly sour, quite bitter light fruits and perfumey hoppage.. pale malts gave a dry, semi-sweet backing.. spicy, dry finish with a lot of bitterness and some alcohol heat. Thicker-bodied, warm, and dry on the palate with an extra hit of bitterness a few seconds after the swallow.. felt OK. Solid brew!
