Thick with malt sweetness well balanced with hops. Bright orange color hints at brighter citrus expression.

I had the chance to sample a bottle of last year’s, plus a bottle of this year’s in the same day, so I’m obligated to comment.
This is an interesting IIPA. It’ll smack you around a bit-- it does earn it’s extra "I" and the alcohol is significant in the taste.
Very appealing color-- last year’s was notably cloudier and oranger than this years, but still a very nice looking beer.
Clear aroma with just a hint of hops and alcohol.
The taste is very complex, and I’ve always noted a lot of variation between bottles. . . at least in terms of perception. Still really good though for a dose of true hopness.
You do wish the alcohol was a bit more subtle (seriously, you’d guess it was north of 10-12%), but it’s worth it to chew on all the piney, resiny, skunky goodness.
I especially like the way it is at the same time sharp, citrusy, piney, sweet, floral and fruity (apple, mostly), without any of these notes overpowering the others.
Good stuff. If it were a bit more refined it might be "great". . . but it also might not be as unique.

Bottle. Golden orange pour with tan head. Aroma is lightly hopped with not much of anything. Alcohol come through with some citrus hops, some light malt balancing tones.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Pours a light orange with a slight white head. Citrusy aroma. Taste is bitter grapefruit up front, followed by some citrus, balanced out with some caramel maltiness. Good stuff, would certainly drink again.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Aroma is hard core pine, cleaning solution and assertive citrus rind, not peel but rind. The flavor can easily be duplicated by venturing into your local lovable cedar and pine forest, cutting into your basic free standing live tree and licking it. This is aggressively piney and cedarish enough to be medicinal. Great weight to the beer but it unfortunately leaves the beer on your tongue for quite a while. Interesting and certainly an experience but it kind of feels like a failed pliny clone homebrew to me. Thank you Arcadia. 2013 12oz.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Light brown to orange pour that was mostly clear. Small amount of white head. Strong orange and lemon citrus hops aroma, wow. Subtle and well blended taste between malt and hop bill. Strong grapefruit that’s bitter and sweet. Soft carbonation, a little dry finish and oily mouthfeel. I remember this beer being better and look forward to trying it again.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 2/28/13, as Arcadia Hop Rocket Imperial India Pale Ale
Aroma: The aroma is an odd mix of pine and grapefruit hops with some musky cologne
Appearance: Pours a cloudy orange color with a small, bubbly white head and medium lace
Flavor: Tastes muddled, there’s a nice hop bitterness, but the it becomes off toward the end palate
Palate: The body is medium, with average carbonation, and a fairly dry finish on the mouth
It has a solid hop feel, but there’s just something off about this one, and it comes from what I can best describe as a musky cologne. That’s not a perfect description, but it’s the closest thing I can think of. It really is just weird, musky and earthy component that makes the whole beer feel a little muddled and off. Everything else was solid, but that part was hard to get past.
