Bullit (1300), Glasgow, Scotland May 4, 2009 Tap @ brewpub. Dark orange - copper colour, off-white head. Nose of pine hops. Flavour is hoppy and fruity. Good bitterness. Well carbonated. Bitter finish. GMCC2181 (846), Bear, Delaware, USA May 3, 2009 Bottle from SL. Nice orange color with a red tint. Ok head. Aroma of a hop that I cant pick up. Maybe some grapefruit and lemon on the nose. Taste is kind of similar. Graprefruit, lemon bitterness to it. A little different then most DIPA, but not in a bad way. No trace of the nine percent, its hidden very well. Overall a decent DIPA that I enjoyed drinking. smcolw (314), Wayland, Massachusetts, USA May 1, 2009 Lumpy and large head...slow to dissipate. Lacey lines throughout the glass as the liquid descends. Hazy, orange-amber color.
Harsh, overwhelming, high-alpha hop smells. Grapefruit and ground pine needles. Perhaps the strongest smelling beer I’ve ever experienced.
Surprising malt base. Holding the beer in my mouth, I sense the hop after a sizable wait. But when I do, it is very strong and completely dominating. Too much of a good thing. Place this one in the extreme list. twitcher (293), framingham, Massachusetts, USA Apr 26, 2009 bottle.
Medium amber copper color, small but persistent off white head that keeps a layer on top. Dank, sticky hop nose- pine resins and sharp citrus fruits with some faint hints of malt sweetness. Very aggressive hops on the nose. Flavor balances a bit more, but still definitely hop-forward. Heavy but tame bitterness, loads of sharp lemons and grapefruit, earthy resinous hop flavors. Toasted dark bread malt holds up the backbone. Some booze shows up in the flavor near the back end. Palate on the heavy side, some oily aspects, lightly bitter finish. Overall a very good DIPA, shows some uniqueness with the earthy hop character. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA Apr 14, 2009 Rich malty and hoppy aroma with a lot of citrus fruits, lemony sourness, and some cookie like aromas. Reddish orange with a thick foamy head of pretty good duration. Tight bubbles stick to the side of the glass. Flavor is sweetish with initial grapefruity and apple notes. Some honey, lemon, and other citrus flavors. Light saltiness, some bitterness but largely tempered by the sweetness. Palate is creamy and not overly thick. Light syrup. Alcohol comes up in the duration. Pretty good but balance seems a little off somewhere. Aroma is better than the flavor. Perhaps a bit too sweet. PaulHegedus (458), Georgetown, Ontario, Canada Apr 13, 2009 Bottle. This is a beautiful orange amber in the glass with a one and a half inch, foamy off white head. The head is really creamy and dense looking. The aromas are very strong, plenty of fresh pink grapefruit, orange, lemon, pine. There’s a fair bit of carbonation coming up from the centre of the glass. The mouthfeel is medium in body, a bit oily. Initially there is a lot of fruit in the flavour: tropical fruits, passion fruit, pineapple, mango, citrus fruits. Hop bitterness comes fairly quickly with some bready malt and caramel, but the finish really has none of the beer’s earlier complexities. madvike (301), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Apr 1, 2009 Bottle - Pours hazy golden amber with a medium head. Aroma is wonderful--grassy, citrusy, floral hops. Very sweet and pungent smell. The flavor dissapoints. It starts out with a lot of malt, then hits with some real bitter hops and almost a syrupy sweetness that permeates throughout. It almost tastes like honey and sugar, and it really distracted and knocked the balance totally off. It’s real oily and sticky on the mouth--not pleasant at all. bigtaster (184), Grand Rapids, USA Mar 20, 2009 Pours hazy golden color with small off white head. Huge orange lemon nose, and lots of fresh green pin/grass, some exotic fruits mango, very nice aroma. Caramel and a good amount of malts balance the immediate hit of hops. The hop flavors and aroma stand out to be fairly unique in a often replicated beer style. Thoroughly enjoyable.
