Smells piney, faint citrus in there. Taste is biting up front and sticks to your palate on the way down. Finishes smooth, nicely balanced hops. Wonderful 11th anniversary ale. Aroma of fresh grapefruity hops and lightly sweet pale malt. Body starts with a decent full and sweet caramel maltiness along with big fresh citrusy grapefruity hoppy presence before a drier, bittersweet crisp finish. Nicely balanced and pretty drinkable IIPA. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 24, 2009 Bottled. A hazy amber beer with an orangey head. The aroma has strong notes of grass, hops, grapefruit, and caramel - lovely hoppy. The flavor is very sweet with strong notes of hops, grass, and grapefruit, leading to a very dry grassy finish. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 29, 2008 Draft taster at <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/illinois/chicag Map Room. Light, almost pale lager color. But that’s from a small sample in a regular sized glass. Smell from that sample is pretty hop-intense. Pine needles, grapefruit, and yes, catbox, all very fresh. Big grainy malt taste. The kind of beer that’ll be hard to keep making if current trends continue. Get one while you can. jtw (944), farmington, Michigan, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 5, 2008 12 oz bottle. slightly clouded orange-amber liquid, sticky light beige head. resiny hops aroma, pine, pineapple, lemon-orange citrus, and no alcohol (moderately dry). dry flavor of hops and a tiny backbone of malt - lots of hops juices in this one. more pine and citrus, with a bit of bready malt hidden behind. enjoyable beer - early summer would seem to be a better time for it, however! | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 29, 2008 Updated: Feb 18, 2008on tap at the maproom. pours clear golden-amber with off white head. nose is loaded with pnw hop aroma and interesting one at that, lots of piney and sweet grapefruit but a unique earthy-hop leafy notes in there too. flavor was pretty much of the same, at first i didn’t find this bitter enough but later on i thought the hop flavor just worked so well i didn’t need big bitterness. the malt backbone was a bit lacking but there was no alcohol tasted and this is all about the awesome fresh interesting hop notes. easily the best Arcadia beer i’ve had. i need some more.4.0.
2/15/08, 12oz bottle, this bottle is still very fresh and tastes exactly like I remember it did on tap. however I’m picking up some citrus, fruit punchy, and bubblegum hop notes. just an awesome, unique IIPA nose, and slightly under-rated! wonderful beer. I’m getting more. 3.9.
