3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 FunkyBrewster (1380) - Chicago, USA - JUL 26, 2009
UPDATED: AUG 1, 2009 On tap at Guthrie’s in Chicago. Pours a golden orange color with a slightly creamy white head. Aroma is a newly opened dime bag, just straight up weed, I passed it around the table so all of the non craft beer drinkers could take a whiff of weed in a glass. It has some underlying caramel malts but mostly just fresh hop oils. Flavor starts with a piney hop kick that gives way to a slightly citric fruity character. Continues to ride that piney character again finally adding some sweet malts before a finish of dry bitterness. Medium body and an active carbonation. Interesting beer, not well balanced at all though. I love hops so it was enjoyable enough but for anyone who doesn’t like a big mouth and nose of weed and pine, its not gonna be a fun experience.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 MeithKichon (6) - - MAY 12, 2012 does not count
Pours orange in color, not much head retention. Nose has citrus, taste though citrus is mild. Definite overpowered on pine tasting hops. Malt is tasted as well as booze at end. Also at the end, a nice tingling sensation. A very good IPA!

Slightly cloudy orange pour with a little head. Nice aroma. Malty and hoppy. Citrus and floral hops mostly. Taste is very earthy and malty. Sticky mouthfeel. A nice alcohol burn too. Not bad overall but something seems off and I can’t figure it out. An ok imperial IPA.

Not a big fan of this one. Definitely prefer their Hopmouth DIPA over this.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 hotstuff (3249) - Indiana, USA - APR 9, 2012
Bottle purchased at Siciliano’s Market in Grand Rapids, MI in December, 2011 and rated on 4-06-2-12. Pours a small white head that mostly diminished, spotty amounts of lacing, transparent body, fast-rising carbonation, and a golden hue. The Aroma is malty, caramel, piney, grapefruit, citrusy, and semi-sweet. The Flavor is bitter, malty, caramel, piney, grapefruit, and a dry finish. The Mouthfeel is very tingly and this is a light-medium bodied beer. Overall, the hops are upfront in the Aroma and Flavor as they should be for this beer style. However, the flavor seemed somewhat disjointed and could have been better.

Very good beer with just a bit too much alcohol for my taste. Pours a clear light amber with a small lacing white head. The aroma a lot of fruit with grapes, plums, and grapefruit over a malty base. The flavor has similar qualities with a nice hop hit. Dry and refreshing, just a bit too much booze in the taste for me.

Grapefruity hop nose. Golden in color with small white head. Sweet fruitiness; piney, grapefruit, and a bit of pineapple on the taste. Excellent!

12 ounce bottle into tulip, bottled 11/15/2011. Pours very hazy golden orange color with a nice 1-2 finger fairly dense white head with good retention that reduces to a thin cap that lasts. Some spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, orange, pine, herbal, floral, pineapple, caramel, biscuit, and a touch of alcohol. Some pretty nice aromas with good balance. Taste of big pine, grapefruit, orange, herbal spiciness, honey, biscuit, caramel, and pineapple. Good amount of bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, pine, herbal, caramel, honey, and biscuit on the finish for a bit. Nice balance of bitterness and sweetness. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a fairly creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming after the finish. Smooth to drink at 9%, but is still a bit of a sipper. Overall this is a very nice DIPA. Nice hoppy flavors; with good balance and smoothness.
