xav33 (313), Midland, MI, Michigan, USA Nov 30, 2006 Arcadia Hopmouth Double IPA
22 oz bomber
Medium pour in a tulip glass
Unknown bottling, mouthed 11/06
Poured a clear brownish orange with a huge mostly lasting creamy off-white head with good lacing.
Smelt of moderate pineapple upside down cake, spruce, orange rinds, cookies.
Taste was upfront moderate bitter earthy and pine followed by strong bitter mold, toasted dark bread and grapefruit rinds with a light sweet toffee kick on a long bittersweet citrus and grassy finish. Palate was medium bodied, creamy, lively carbonated and strongly astringent.
Overall, one hell of a punch to the mouth. Everything flirts with perfection, except the mouth weight, texture and carbonation could be tweaked with a little bit, maybe enliven the malt flavors.
Theis (2362), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 19, 2008 Draught at GABF 2008. Cloudy amber - white head. Milkes, grassy, wood, malty sweetness, caramel, citrus, light piney, boring. JCastner (45), New York, USA Oct 13, 2008 Pours a deep copper with a faint white head. Aroma, well, there isn’t much aroma to speak of, just a bit of sweet Maris Otter and some Fuggles. Heavy mouth-feel with a taste of caramel and a slightly bitter finish. A very uncomplicated DIPA, disappointed for sure. Maybe I’ll try and review again in the future. alexsdad06 (688), Ohio, USA Oct 12, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Hopmouth pours a clear amber color with a small off white head. The aroma is big sticky sweet caramel malt, oranges, other citrus hoppiness. The flavor has a nice moderate sweetness, biscuity malt, orange citrus, with a general bitterness that lingers. There is a nice balance between the malt and the hops. On the thicker side of medium bodied. This is a decent although non spectacular DIPA. Bockyhorsey (2056), Mesa, Arizona, USA Oct 8, 2008 Bomber courtesy of eaglefan538. Floral aroma on the nose. Copper body with creamy white head. Good citrus flavor, sugary sweetener and not as dry as most IIPA’s can be. Smooth on the palate good brew. Thanks Brian ucusty (1234), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Oct 5, 2008 Hazy copper pour with a frothy white head. Crystal malts on the nose. Medium bodied with sweet malts up front. Grapefruity/ piney finish, slightly resinous
