railcat1 (578), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 23, 2008 This poured a dark black with little or no head and very sweet,I was surprised at how sweet it was with hints of chocolate and coffee and has aged well with a lot of roastyness to it.CHEERS! polomagnifico (532), Saginaw, Michigan, USA Jun 22, 2008 Updated: Aug 23, 2008Re-Rate
Bottle. Aroma has notes of red wine, coffee, chocolate, sweet malt. Very dark ruby-brown-black hue with a small mostly diminishing head that left some lace. Flavor is coffee, chocolate, and a little sour. Palate is medium bodied and soft. Finish is bitter. Aroma and flavor are good but the body is quite weak for an Impy. Did not like the sour tones either. Get’s much better as it warms. Very good. Previous tasting must’ve been a bad bottle/batch.
Jun 22, 2008 bottle. Pours with no head and aroma and flavor are way off. This must be a bad batch. Had this before and it was a completely different beer. Had to pour out. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jun 21, 2008 Bottle is overly sugary and leaves not even a hint of a foamy head....nothin’. Still it is pitch black, possesses semi-sweet chocolate, fructose, and pure vanilla extract; all redeeming qualities. Moderate mouthfeel. Just a bit above average. kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA Jun 16, 2008 Pours a thick black body with a large frothy dark brown head. Aroma is medium sweet chocolate, coffee and light cherry. Flavor is vinous, chocolate, roasty, some coffee, light raisin and other dark fruits. Full bodied, creamy texture. More hoppy finish. Optigon (561), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jun 15, 2008 Pours black with nearly no head. Aroma is caramel, chocolate, and roast. Not horribly prominent, but there, and pleasant. Moderate/full mouth feel. Some alcohol burn. Caramel, coffee, chocolate, and similar flavors pull it together nicely. mildly oily mouth texture. Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 9, 2008 Arcadia Imperial Stout (3.3)
In short: A somewhat different Imperial Stout. Interesting black currant usage and dry powdery character. Unfortunately some really “off” flavours.
How: Bottle, 12oz, from HogtownHarry, age unknown, thanks Harry.
The look: Black body with a small tan head
In long: Floury malts, powdery cacao, black currants. Overall the mouthfeel was very floury and it killed some of the beer flavours. There was some coffee flavours in there but it was more like old coffee filter rather than nice roasted coffee beans. Finish had unsuspected but pleasant dry lemony hops. There were a few things I didn’t like about this beer but it also had a few interesting thing going for it so there are a few reasons why I’d want to try this one again, one of them being because I like to get drunk.
explosivebeer (36), Washington, USA Jun 9, 2008 Pours very black. Good rich caramel aroma with a hint of alcohol. Chocolate, caramel, toffee, and alcohol come across. The body is good but the alcohol thins it a bit. Overall a very good imperial stout. PilsnerPeter (2598), Flushing, New York, USA Jun 5, 2008 Bottle: Deep brown pour-thin appearance with a weak tan head. Nose has some roasted barley, dark chocolate syrup, licorice and a booze hint. Very mildly tart upfront in the flavor. Dark fruit notes- tastes like a grape lollipop. Sweet green raisins are in there as well- then an abrupt roastiness comes, which is the best part of this sub-par Stout. Late coffee roast hint. Not much going on here.
