Commercial Description:
Black as coal in color, this bottle conditioned Stout has a velvety rich and sweet malt aroma. After pouring, a dense brown head gives way to a big, full-bodied and creamy texture that has flavors of roasted coffee and black currants, blending perfectly with the malt. A generous amount of hops add balance and complexity to this extraordinary stout that will continue to improve with age. A worthy beer to cellar and enjoy throughout the year.

06 bottle thanks to mreusch, but also big thanks to SpudclampDawg for sending me a bottle as well. Poured an inky black color with a slight tan head that faded almost immediately. Aroma of some roasted malt, a hint of coffee and dark fruit, and slight chocolate and alcohol. Nice chocolate malt entry with undertones of caramel, and slight hints of licorice and dark fruits, that leads into a smooth finish with some roasted coffee coming out on the finish. Full and creamy on the palate, a nice beer. I am glad I was able to get 2 so I can let one sit a while and see how it turns out. Thanks Matt and Spud, I appreciate it.

2007 bottle from john_adam2002... viscous black pour topped by a slowly rising tan head with orange high lights. dried fruity aroma with robustly roasted grain, coffee, lactic sourness and an alcohol sting. flavor gets bonus points for a low sweetness level... roasty grain, wood, alcohol, chocolate, fruit and a light acidity. the finish is ashy along with some dry hops. coffee lingers in the aftertaste. thin to medium body and low carbonation. 7/4/7/3/17=3.8

2006 bottle by way of indra... pours thick and black with a fluffy brown head which leaves nice lacing. aroma is mostly roasted grain followed by coffee, mild chocolate and lacto. flavor is super roasty grain and some chocolate. the coffee is much more subdued than the ’07. there’s a pronounced astringency on the finish that i enjoy greatly... very porter like in it’s dryness. no real presence of alcohol. medium bodied with a creamy texture and soft palate. 7/4/8/4/17=4.0

Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Sweet roasted malt aroma with a touch of alcohol. Swirling brings out molasses and just a little dark fruit. This fruit is more pronounced in the flavor, where it turns almost berry-ish. The roasted malts are still there, as is the alcohol. Touch of cigar ash on the back end. Thin body, but tasty.

On tap, blind tiger, NYC. Black, small thin off white wisp of a head. Sweet aroma, some alcohol. Thin body but lots of flavour - almost Baltic in nature. Sweet, good, glad I tired it.

12oz. Bottle: Moderately sweet aroma. Smells of raisins, chocolate, dark malts, roasting, and coffee. Poured black in color with a tiny brown head that was too small to even diminish. Opaque. Flavor of chocolate, roasting, smoke, coffee, and cream. Medium body. Thin, watery texture. Soft carbonation. No "creamy texture" or "full body." Like Bryers coffee ice cream with Hershey’s syrup that has been roasted.

Pours extremely thick black with almost no head. Aroma seems more reminiscent of a Baltic Porter than an Imperial Stout: almost no coffee or roasty notes, some dark chocolate, but I detect pilsner malts as well as subtle dark fruits. Flavor is similar, with dark fruit- cherry, plum, black currant- being played up over chocolate maltiness. This is an interesting Imperial Stout, but it’s certainly not one of my favorites.
