Commercial Description:
Black as coal in color, this bottle conditioned Stout has a velvety rich and sweet malt aroma. After pouring, a dense brown head gives way to a big, full-bodied and creamy texture that has flavors of roasted coffee and black currants, blending perfectly with the malt. A generous amount of hops add balance and complexity to this extraordinary stout that will continue to improve with age. A worthy beer to cellar and enjoy throughout the year.

Thanks to Yaniv for the bottle! I’ve gotta pour a little out for the homie who could drink this week. A cold one to not drink on! 2005 bottle. Pours text book imperial stout. Dark dark black wih a thin tan film head. The nose is again, textbook impy stout, ala Old Raspy. Fun enough, but not the mind boggler. But a man can stand only so boggled a mind for so long before he’s permanently boggled. Raisins, dark fruit roast. A bit sweet, but not too much. A bit of toast. A bit creamy. Smooth slightly oily mouthfeel with higher than average carbonation. The flavors are a touch on the downside. Perhaps age hasn’t been too kind here? A bit of that cardboard oxidation flavor. A bit sweet. A bit chocolatey. Fruity roasty acidity. A long lingering roast. Strong berries. A bit of booze in the finish too. But not a bad one at all. Becomes a bit deeper with warming, like most decent beers.

12 ounce bottle from Gregis. Pour opaque pitch black. Medium brown head. A decent ring of lace left behind. I get some nice hops, alchohol vapors, dark roasted coffee, currants (I think), and some chocolate syrup as well. The flavor hits me heavily with chocolate syrup right up front. Cafe Mocha. Even, blanced finish. Maybe a bit on the drier side. Average carbonation. Medium body. Not too bad at all.

Bottle from a trade thanks to Gregis. Thanks a million, Greg!! Hell, I loved this Impy Stout! It’s not an elite like the Ten Fidy but hell, it’s delicious! Jet, jet black pour with a slowly forming 1/2 head. Smells rich and dark with a hint of banana. Am I crazy? Delicious taste with the chocolate and malt and definitely a hint of the banana evident in the aroma. This was added as an extra in a trade and I really enjoyed it a ton. You are the man, Greg!!

Great beer... I had it after a pint of Speedway, So that might have over shadowed it a tad. But nonetheless, it had a wonderfully dense head that was caramel in color. Explosions of deep malt, roasted coffee and a creamy finish (not really milky, just creamy)

This has a thick dark brown body that perhaps looks black to some under dim lighting. Even a vigorous pour from the bottle produced only the slenderest of heads which soon devolved into a skinny brown ring around the glass. It has a rich, sweet dark malt aroma accented by roasted coffee and thick molasses. Creamy body. The flavor is more complex with the well blended additions of anise, dark chocolate, a subtle berry presence, and a roasty bitterness. Finishing on a fairly dry note, this is a pretty decent ale.

Opaque black in color with a brown head that almost fully dissipated. While the beer appeared thick, the nose was not very expressive showing scents of expresso roast, dark chocolate and anise. In the mouth it was medium-bodied and light on it’s feet. Again, based on the color, I was hoping for the palate to be more powerful. The finish was dry and bitter with the flavors of burnt expresso. While it was a "correct" Imperial Stout, it did not excite emotion for me.
