Commercial Description:
Black as coal in color, this bottle conditioned Stout has a velvety rich and sweet malt aroma. After pouring, a dense brown head gives way to a big, full-bodied and creamy texture that has flavors of roasted coffee and black currants, blending perfectly with the malt. A generous amount of hops add balance and complexity to this extraordinary stout that will continue to improve with age. A worthy beer to cellar and enjoy throughout the year.

12 oz Bottle. Aroma of roasty coffee and cocoa, flavors that are all present in the beer, but this one falls a bit short in the mouthfeel and finish. It’s on the dry side and leaves some astringency that is less than satisfying.

Almost no head at all with minimal carbonation. Kind of lifeless. Sweet chocolaty aroma with some raisins and vinuous notes. Color is black with some brown around the edges. Body is a little bit thinner than I expected. Little bit of alcohol presence but for the most part hides it well. Rich and chocolaty again with lots of roasted grains, some dark fruit and sweet malts. Little slick and oily in the mouth. Finishes sweet and slick with some lingering roasty notes. A decent imperial stout.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown/black with a touch more fizz than expected. Aromas are roasty with a touch of dark fruit, but fairly subtle for an Impy Stout. Flavor is sweet, roasty and kind of dull. I didn’t find much in the way of complexity or plot development and was left without much satisfaction.

Bottle from hoppymeal. Pour a beautiful obsidian black with a small bubbly head that dissapates into a tan ring around the edge. Chocolate, molasses, dark sugars and prunes on the nose. Mouthfeel is medium to lighter bodied with soft carbonation. Flavors of roasted coffee, mildly dark chocolate, prunes, hazelnuts and vanilla. Finish lingers (although a bit watery), with the slighest of alcohol at the end. This was a truly enjoyable beer that I wish I had many more of to hold on to. Thanks hoppymeal.

Bottle, thanks to after4ever. Pours black, with a dense and lacy tan head. Aroma chocolate, vanilla, alcohol. Sweet taste of chocolate and nuts and coffee. Soft, bittersweet finish that hides the alcohol and makes this beer seem sessionable.

2005 bottle. A very solid stout. Chewy molasses, beets in the aroma. Vigorous swirl yields beer all over the floor.

Small head on the pour, with a very dry, chewy flavor, old hops and loads of clean, bready malts. A bit of chalky maltiness goes a long way in the finish. Great stuff, and certainly a strong candidate for aging. Probably wouldn’t do it too much longer, although I could also see this beer reemerging as something fantastic with 10+ years on it.

12 oz bottle. Near black with a brief, creamy brown head. Light nose of coffee and dark chocolate. Mild carb, a little syrupy. Fudge and coffee-soaked raisins. A bit vegetal. Dry, chalky finish.
