Head was tan to almost brown when I looked from the bottom I notice the head to have some white to it at the top. Aroma was mild compared to most imperials Notes of cherries vanilla and bakers chocolate. Not much malt though. The head dissapeared as expected. No lacing whatsoever. First few tastes I noticed the alcohol and some cherry and raisin sweetness. At first I did not like the flavor after sampling a Michigan brewing Russian Imperial, I expected more roast malt . But the sweet flavor really grew on me by the end of the beer. Compared to the rest of the Imperials I had to give it a sub 4 score. I would try one again but I have plenty batch 7000 and MI Brewing Imperial to drink first Ughsmash (3999), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA

Aroma was odd, but intriguing... somewhat sour currants, freshly-roasted coffee, nad pine needles. Flavor was much like the aroma... primarily berries and roasted coffee... berries leaving a sour feel around the tongue, and the coffee carrying through to a long and moderately bitter finish. Hint of pine at random points in the drink. Earth also made a showing in the flavor. Medium-full bodied. Sourness became a tad annoying as this warmed to room temp... but enjoyable overall. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 11, 2006 Bottle courtesy of pailhead: Bottle conditioned. Pours to a totally opaque, near-black brown with a small tan head. The head fades quickly to a small covering on top of the glass, but does stick around in a small ring throughout. The aroma is dark chocolate, bakers chocolate, mild cherry, plum, roasted malt (though the roasted part doesn’t come through so much, rather the bitter dark grain comes through), cocoa, vanilla beans, very mild coffee, and when swirled it gives off a hint of citrus/pine hops. The taste is stale plum, dark roasted grains, honey covered grain dust, malted milk, black currents as advertised, earthy coffee beans, and a hint of vanilla, oak & bourbon. Full bodied, medium carbonation, slick and syrupy mouthfeel, finishes sticky and sweet, but the bitter dark malts nicely balance out that sweetness and leave me with bits of chewy burnt caramel, bitter roasted malt, and a touch of hops. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 24, 2005 2002 vintage. This Imperial Stout pours a deep eclipse black color from a 12oz bottle. Very large sized beige tan foamy long lasting head, with good retention. Aroma is dark chocolate, coffee, cherries and floral. A medium bodied Imperial Stout. Malts are chocolate, coffee and roasted malts. Hops are slightly citrusy and earthy. Lots of roasty malt flavors. There is also some tart/sour interaction going on in the background. Makes for a kind of interesting taste. Some cheery and plum flavors in here as well. Smooth taste. Nice carbonation. There is a slight burst of fizz on the tongue that gets wiped out by the roasty malts. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is crisp and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
