Bottle purchased at Pauly’s in Lowell. Pours pitch black with a fleeting brown head. Smells and tastes of toasted malt, dark cocoa, black licorice, and dark fruit. A bit hot, but a fair stout that I would drink again.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 travita (2647) - Frisco, Texas, USA - AUG 29, 2010
Bottle. Very black in color, little to no head, and very dark. The smell is very roasty, malts, coffee, burnt. The taste is teriyaki, vinegar, burnt malts, very roast, slight bitterness.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 GeneralGao (3545) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - AUG 7, 2010
Bottle. 2006 vintage. Poured an opaque black color. The head was very thin, brown, and dissipated almost immediately. Smelled of milk chocolate liqueur, a touch of hay, and subdued anise. Medium to full bodied and sweet with carbonation on the lower end of the spectrum. I tasted dark chocolate with a coffee accent, light anise, and some dark fruit. Not at all bad, even for a 2006 bottle.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 hayduke (2526) - Eureka, California, USA - JUL 8, 2010
Thanks to Strykzone for this beer.. A real winner for rating number, 1,900. It poured a dark black color with a small, light brown head and good sticky lacing rings. The nose is roasted malts with chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and some alcohol. Body full with a slick, oily mouthfeel with low carbonation. Flavor moderately bitter with a long duration, finish. Very nice beer.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 MrDick (323) - San Francisco, California, USA - JUL 3, 2010
2005 bottle (opened in 7/3/2010). Nice layer of yeast bits still at the bottom of the bottle. Pours black with nice bit of head - no worries about this beer going bad with age. Aroma is bitter chocolate, roasted malts, a bit of sweet tang. Taste is all roasted malts and chocolate. A little oxidation but doesn’t take away from the taste - it really lingers in the mouth after each sip. Nice beer to age.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Niko100 (1175) - New York, USA - JUL 1, 2010
Dark brown/black color; Medium creamy body; Aroma of toasted malt, coffee, & chocolate; Flavor of roasted malt, rich chocolate, caramel, and some hops; Nicely balanced; Overall, pretty good - I would call this one a chocolate stout.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 thetomG (246) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUN 30, 2010
Pours very dark brown with a small amount of tan head that lingers ever so slightly as you drink leaving hints of lacing around the glass.
Smells pretty good - a nice blend of malty slightly chocolaty caramel-ish aromas. Feels a bit too carbonated for my palate, but also quite sticky. Flavor is more subdued than the aroma and tastes a bit too roasty to me.
Good stout, but not something I’d really seek out again.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Snojerk321 (2954) - San Diego, California, USA - JUN 11, 2010
12oz bottle from 2007. Pours viscous black with a small tan head, low carbonation. Nose holds light oxidation, smoke, bittersweet chocolate, some toffee. Medium-heavy on the palate, very light booze detected. A good brew, just not overly complex.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Pawola22 (2198) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 24, 2010
12oz bottle. Pours a black body with a thin, brown head that dissipates quickly and leaves a nice, creamy lacing. Aroma is nice. Bitter dark chocolates, woody roasts, caramel, dark fruits, licorice, and a bit peppery. Flavor is along the same lines, but a bit thin in body for the style. Despite that, still lots of rich flavors. Dark chocolates with a bit of a milky sweetness with some licorice and dark fruits up front. More caramels and a light wood come in while this stays sweeter than the aroma. Some roasts and a touch of smoke come in as this finishes rich and dry with a light to moderate, woody bitterness and a hint of citrus. Leaves a lengthy aftertaste following a smooth, medium-thin body with a very light carbonation. Overall, a nice "tweener" stout. Has the richness and flavor profile of an impy, but drinks like something a bit lighter. Enjoyable.
