Smell of vanilla fudge as soon as bottle is opened. Sweet cacao and licorice in aroma, with notes of alcohol and roasted coffee. Roasted coffee and sweet smokey malt with pleasant lactic notes with alcohol coming out very discreetly. Licorice comes out as beer warms up. Very smooth and restrained. Yummy IS! | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 12, 2005 Bottle. Thanks to jtw for sending this! Brown fluffy head resting on a black body. Notes of roasted malt, light licorice, light smoke, and hints of dark chocolate. Taste is light alcohol, smoke, roasted malt, coffee and light cocoa. More a smoked stout than an imperial stout, I think. Body is relatively smooth with medium carbonation feel. Finish is more smoke and roasted malt, light burnt wood, chocolate and light hops. sloth (1662), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 5, 2005 Large light brown head with excellent retention and sparse stringy lacing. Black as night, Roasty nose, hints of berries and cocoa with a bit of caramel also. Med/full body, nice texture. Fruity, roast and chocolate on the palate, smoke, licorice and faint vinous notes. Seems to get smokier as it warms along with the alcohol. Finish is dry, chocolatey, nice! Thanks Steve! Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 2, 2005 Pours black with beige head that fades fast. Strong sweet aroma of chocolate and caramel, with some coffee. Taste about the same except the coffee is more dominant. Almost no hops detectable whatsoever. Long bitter coffee aftertaste. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 26, 2005 Updated: Oct 20, 2007Bottle, poured black with tan head. Tight fizzy head, and the roasted aroma is great. Sweet, with some Carmel and something else. Oh, this is a wonderful coffee brew. The carbonation is slightly more then I like, but no points of for that.
There was some sour behind this sweetness, as it warms, it get more layers and more complex. I must give apologies, I think this is from wolfs, but 3 trades arrived on the same day, I can’t keep it straight. Thanx guys. Ungstrup (15099), Frederiksberg, Denmark

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 16, 2005 Thanks to Mike/BBB63 for this beer. 12oz bottle. NB Worthy glass. 50.7°. Black as night, no tint on bottom or edges of glass, with a light brown head about a 1/4" high. Nice "legs" and laces like crazy. Aroma is bittersweet chocolate with buttermilk stirred in. Roast. Citrus peels. Really nice aroma. Flavor is sweet roasted malt with sweet and sour notes. Has a mild hops backing. There is also a touch of a mixture of bittersweet chocolate and coffee, but the flavor is mostly roasted malts. Finish is dry with a roasted malt, cooking chocolate, and a slightly hoppy. The beer has a nice mouthfeel, it coats the mouth and leaves a bitter tingle.
