Commercial Description:
Black as coal in color, this bottle conditioned Stout has a velvety rich and sweet malt aroma. After pouring, a dense brown head gives way to a big, full-bodied and creamy texture that has flavors of roasted coffee and black currants, blending perfectly with the malt. A generous amount of hops add balance and complexity to this extraordinary stout that will continue to improve with age. A worthy beer to cellar and enjoy throughout the year.

Bottle Pours a very thick black witha dense creamy brown head and lacing that is thick, fine and resiliant. Aroma is a rich chocolately, licorice with plenty of molassas and an marked but not over powering alcohol note. Flavors are sharp smokey and quite bitter. They seem to work together well though and the feel is very smooth. Finish is bitter and of charcoal but somewhat short lived and clean. Very nice brew. Thanks to Secret Santa !

Bottle, 2007 vintage. Pours black, somewhat thin, with no head at all just some bubbles. Aroma of alcohol and super sweet malt. Flavor initially sickly sweet with a slight roast in the finish. There is a vegetal quality to the taste as well. Ick. The beer improves with warming but it’s still quite boozy. This is not a very good beer.

[Fresh winter 08 bottle - oops correction... 2007 vintage in small print on the label] Pours a creamy black with a small brown head. Great aroma of roast, molasses, dark chocolate, light licorice and smoked peat? Oily mouthful, medium/full with very soft medium carbonation. Flavor is quite mellow and balanced, doesn’t seem like it needs any prerequisite aging like some imperials. Semi-sweet chocolate and light roasted coffee, hops are a tad tangy. Extremely easy drinking. An everyday IS done right, not complex but far from boring. [re-tasted 2-15-09] leathery, some soy

2006 bottle. Pours an extremely dark brown with a 2 cm head that settles into a thin uneven tan head. Cocoa, vanilla, and nutty tones in the aroma. Palate slightly thin. Cocoa in the taste, along with some roasted notes. A bit too hot overall. A decent hop finish as well, but doesn’t linger long. Decent.

12 oz bottle purchased at Oak Tree. Pours a thick solid black with a slight film of mocha colored head. Musty aroma of dark fruit, coffee and dry chocolate powder. Full bodied with soft carbonation and hardly any noticable alcohol. Flavor is sweet like an alcoholic dark cherry in a chocolate shell. The hop bitterness melds with the malts to make this one seem burnt. The only thing I can say about this beer is meh....

12oz bottle 2005 vintage. Pours a black color with a light tan head. Nose is lots of alcohol, some malt and chocolate. Taste is very chocolaty up front, lots of malt, malted milk balls, and a warming finish. very nice mouthfeel with a thick body and a nice finish.

Pour is black with thin wisps of dark tan cream on top. Aroma is full and chocolaty. The rich dark chocolate swirls up my nose and leaves me feeling spoiled. This is going to be good. Flavor is flush with rich dark chocolate and a decent amount of roast. The body is silky smooth and full. This is a truly luscious imperial stout. 8/3/8/4/18

RERATE is disappointing. 12oz bottle. Black pour. Aroma is dark chocolate but mostly roast. Really strong roast and bitterness a little alcoholic as it warms, quite average.5/3/6/3/15

12 oz bottle. Near black with a brief, creamy brown head. Light nose of coffee and dark chocolate. Mild carb, a little syrupy. Fudge and coffee-soaked raisins. A bit vegetal. Dry, chalky finish.
