Commercial Description:
Black as coal in color, this bottle conditioned Stout has a velvety rich and sweet malt aroma. After pouring, a dense brown head gives way to a big, full-bodied and creamy texture that has flavors of roasted coffee and black currants, blending perfectly with the malt. A generous amount of hops add balance and complexity to this extraordinary stout that will continue to improve with age. A worthy beer to cellar and enjoy throughout the year.

Appearance is a picture perfect pour of dark molasses brown settling to matte black with a waffer thin super dark brown cap, a cocoa dusting remains intact on top throughout the glass along with a fluffier collar; lacing is minimal. Aroma is faint of soft and dry bakers chocolate with some notes of coffee roast and a touch of alcoholic heat. Some vinous character grows as it warms but stays mostly sweet and chocolatey. Taste is robustly roasty with a black malt tangy edge dripped upon by some dry sweet chocolate powdering. Dry finish ensues with some coffee bean bitterness and burntness with a chocolatey touch which lingers well onto the’n palate. Feel is about medium with a smoother fullness upon some sips but has a certain intensity missing within its character that I can’t quite put my finger on, but it is quite good and quite drinkable. A fine example but lacking some depth and heft.

Bottle courtesy Beachbum. Pours thick and black with a thin tan head. Roasted grain, chocolate malt, dark fruit aroma. Thick chocolate, roasted grain, vanilla, coffee taste. Has a nice oily finish, very good beer.

Black appearance with a thick brown head. Good dark chocolate in the nose. Fresh dark malt and brown sugar with a hint of coffee. The body is sweetish with notes of coffee and a touch of alcohol. Nicely balanced, finishes long and roasty. But, as with the London Porter, spritzyness is an issue, not letting the flavors fully materialize. Nevertheless, a quality offering from this fine brewery, stop in if you’re in the area; pleasant atmosphere, great service and good beer to boot.

Lots of roasted coffee in the aroma, some sweetness too. Completely black body, with no head at all. Roasty flavor, with a good background sweetness.

12 oz bottle pours a dark black with a nice tan head that fades down pretty quickly. Lots of toasted bready chocolate roasted and alcohol aromas (maybe even some fusel alcohols in there). Medium bodied and creamy - my lips keep sticking to the glass. Sweet flavors coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, roast, but a bitterness underneath it all. Finishes dry with the alcohol. Pretty tasty overall.

I thought this was sort of run of the mill at first. With time, it grew on me. Good roasted qualities with dark chocolate, licorice, raisin, alcohol and wood. It has a nice mouthfeel, but the finish, while warming, is short and lacking.

Had poured from a 12 oz. bottle. Oddly enough the aroma is sour and bacony. The flavor is dark roasted malt with coffee and chocolate backing.
