Commercial Description:
Black as coal in color, this bottle conditioned Stout has a velvety rich and sweet malt aroma. After pouring, a dense brown head gives way to a big, full-bodied and creamy texture that has flavors of roasted coffee and black currants, blending perfectly with the malt. A generous amount of hops add balance and complexity to this extraordinary stout that will continue to improve with age. A worthy beer to cellar and enjoy throughout the year.

If Arcadia is all about copying the english styles then on this one they’ve done good.

Bottled, Dec 2002. Probably the foamiest, fizziest Imperial I've seen; nice head but a bit much; good dark color and creaminess. Roasted coffee and alcohol aroma, pleasant but not the greatest or most complex. I can really taste alcohol in this puppy; don't know the ABV but its certainly not masked as well as in some; also seems too roasty/bitter without much chocolatiness or sugars except at the very front when it starts out a bit milky. Good mouthfeel, if a bit too bitter. Rather a disappointment, but in all fairness I've had a bunch of killer Imp Stouts the last month; this is still a quality brew, it just lags a bit. Mar 03: I find the body a little more interesting; it's less foamy, more assertive in the nose, creamier on the tongue. Good, not great, Imperial.

Pours motor oil black with a dark brown head. Aromas has hops up front with emphasis on spice - rich chocolate malt in the background. Taste starts hoppy (mix of spice and pine), creamy and light bits of chocolate malts, then the hops get even more prominant on the finish - very piney. A nice imperial stout.

Poured a dark black color with a huge but quickly disappearing head. Lots of lacing. Big roastted aroma. Chocolate, a little vinous, and alcohol. Flavor of roasted malt actually starts a little watery then finishes with a long bitter finish. Medium body overall. Warming sensation in the chest.

Bottle. Black color with a dark brown head on the outside and a creamy brown head in the middle. An intense chocolate aroma that begs to be had. Sweet, sticky, full bodied on the palate. Malty with chocolate, pepper and dried fruits in the flavor. Thanks to hopsrus for the trade.

full dark tan head atop burnt brown...acidic chocolate, raisin, port, & faint vanilla with an essence of alcohol...Roasty, coffee-ish flavors, not exactly imperial thick though, but a oily mouthfeel..heated alcohol, some subtle vanilla, still a bit thin for my tastes.

12 oz bottle: Fluffy, tight bubbled dark brown head that grows right out of the glass. As this foam dies, it leaves behind a thick tan lace, with increased buildup at the edge of opaque, black body. Nutty, brown sugar roasted aroma with some deep mocha notes and a touch of carbon…creamy palate is missing the more vinous notes, but does have a degree of mushed dark plums that blends nicely with charred wood, cocoa and an earthy bitterness. Just short of great.

A pitch black beer with a disappearing dark brown head. Both the aroma and flavor are sweet with notes of chocolate and roasted malt.
