COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black as coal in color, this bottle conditioned Stout has a velvety rich and sweet malt aroma. After pouring, a dense brown head gives way to a big, full-bodied and creamy texture that has flavors of roasted coffee and black currants, blending perfectly with the malt. A generous amount of hops add balance and complexity to this extraordinary stout that will continue to improve with age. A worthy beer to cellar and enjoy throughout the year.

Bottle. Poured a deep dark brown with minimal light tan head. Aroma was roasted malt, dark fruit with a hint of sweetness. The flavor followed with a hint of chocolate and a slightly bitter finish. Not bad.

Bottle. 4/6/13. Pours dark brown-black with a thin, oily brown head. Aroma is nutty, chocolate, vanilla, toffee, booze, grapes. Taste is dry, fruit, booze, wood earth, nutty, chalky; with a long bitter chocolate finish. Incredibly dry throughout; very little sweetness. That being said, it’s still very well-balanced. Little lacing. Relatively low carbonation. Smooth, slick mouth feel. Overall, well crafted; one to be respected. I would have liked more maltiness.

2010. Silky black body, creamy tan head and lace. Good retention. Burnt malts and smoke in the aroma. Bright yeast feels out of place, almost like a farmhouse stout. Smoked wood, charcoal, singed grains, very dark. Needs more malt sweetness to balance, and I still don't like the yeast strain. Meh.

Draft at the Khyber. Silky opaque pour with some lingering tan foam that left lots of runny lace. Dark roasted coffee. Brown leather. Molasses. Raisins. Full body but not so much creamy as "fuzzy."

Pours midnight black, nice lacing. chocolate chip cookies and pie crust. hint of coffee bean. Tastes maltier than the ABV suggests. Very roasty, boozy which covers up any goodness in the cocolate. lactose and blackberries.

Pitch black, small mocha head. Smells of toffee, chocolate, malt, booze, grape. A roasted chocolate, with a charred hop taste, cigarette ash, tame bitter. Fairly thick mouthfeel, lacking a little in the sweet but decent overall. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2010 bottle into a tulip glass. The aroma of chocolate and cherry immediately hit me upon pouring. In the glass the smell was more dark fruits with toasted malt with a hint of licorice. Color is black with a big foamy, khaki head upon pouring that settles it into a creamy head before it dissipates. Malt and dark fruits are present in the taste but its the hops flavor coming through in the end that is more pronounced. It presents with a mild bitterness that, when coupled with the slight astringent taste of the alcohol, comes off a little unpleasant and lingering to me. I didn't get the coffee taste that others have mentioned but did detect a bit of umami. Medium with a dry finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured black into a snifter with a film of head and a ring around glass that lingers and gives good lacing. Aroma of sweet dark fruit and molasses with some chocolate and hint of licorice. Taste is sweet at first with the molasses and dark chocolate flavors, then the hint of licorice appears briefly followed by espresso and slightly charred malt and roasty bitterness that lingers but is soft and not astringent. Medium/full mouthfeel that is almost creamy with a soft carbonation and a bitter finish that builds but isn't harsh. Very nice imperial stout that hides its ABV well and gives you great flavors that meld well together and never overwhelm. ---Jeremy H

bottle to snifter. Dark look and thin head. Not a lot of aroma but an appealing taste with bitter finish.
