COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black as coal in color, this bottle conditioned Stout has a velvety rich and sweet malt aroma. After pouring, a dense brown head gives way to a big, full-bodied and creamy texture that has flavors of roasted coffee and black currants, blending perfectly with the malt. A generous amount of hops add balance and complexity to this extraordinary stout that will continue to improve with age. A worthy beer to cellar and enjoy throughout the year.

12 oz, cellar temp. Dark brown, nearly black, pour with a fine tan head. Roasty and hoppy, good smoky malt backbone and some alcohol in the nose. Nutty and some toffee. Flavor is lackluster and the finish is watery. All acrid smoke and coffee. I’m surprised I didn’t get any hint of that in the nose. Warming in the chest. Not great.

Kinda toasty for an imperial stout, slight sour/bitter taste, clean finish, not heavy, not light ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pitch black in color, small tan foam. Initial burst of scent evokes dark fruit with layer of molasses over roasted malts. A bit vinuous on the palate, with mild hoppy astringency searing through oily texture. Finishing slightly tart with beginning fruit making presence but with a touch of earth and smoke. Not top choice, but notable enough.

Pours dark black, not too think. Nice small head. Balanced dark raosted malts with fresh hops. A little sour after taste. Good and balanced, I would drink it, but not in my top stout list.

Pours black with a thin mocha head...pretty bad retention and lacing. Aroma has dark fruit...slightly winey...and a hint of coffee...subdued. flavor is very roasty with smokey and burnt notes, hints of dark fruit and coffee. Mouthfeel is quite heavy and oily with a very roasty, burnt and fruity lingering finish.

355mL thanks to mikem409. Pours deeper brown looking pretty black in the glass. Medium tan head with decent, wispy cappuccino lace. Fruity, sweet nose with leather and ash. Strawberry gum drops. Taste is quite tart, lemon peel, then very ashy moving dirty and gritty. Very tart, tangy finish. Way too much iron heavy soil character.

2008 bottle pours dark brown black, with very little tan head. Tons of scents, anything from coffee and barley with a touch of smoke to sweet sugary molasses and fruits. The taste also unfolds slowly with a lighter roasted profile leaving lots of room for fruits of red grape, bing cherry and more. There is a good dryness to this and a small bit of piney hops with roasted grains lingering a feel similar to coffee. With almost no carbonation it initially feels like a heavy wine and goes down very easy. It is well aged at 3 years and is an enjoyable brew but 3 years may be about as long as it is built for.

Black in coloer with a decent tan head. Aroma is of chocolate, coffee, and caramel. Taste is of burnt caramel, dark chocolate and malt. Decent, but not spectacular.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours pitch black with dark tan, thick foam. The nose is full of port, raisin, flint, and earth notes. The flavor is a bit boozy with a lot of sherry and port up front. A good bit of earthy bitterness with light coffee in the back. A little uneven with bitterness and booze being the main players. Medium to rich in body with very low carbonation and a medium to long boozy finish. It just kind of sits there on the tongue. It’s okay, but not one to seek out.

2007 Vintage. Has turned into bit of a malt bomb. No head, oily pour. Uber-sweet dark fruit taste. Faded roastiness. Some black olive notes. Not doing it for me.

UPDATED: AUG 18, 2011 This is a fantastic stout. Kind of sweet, just a touch of bitterness. Very good.
