4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 17/20 willblake (2601) - Bel Air, USA - JUN 20, 2006
06.20.06 12oz bottle, the code is notched at B_2 and I have no idea what that means. I got the bottle a couple months ago in Kentucky. At the time, I’d never heard of Arcadia but now it begun to trickle into NJ. If this beer is any indication, I’ll be looking for more samples from this brewery in the future.<!-- p -->
I certainly didn’t expect as much commotion when cracked the cap on this one, but it opened with a whoosh and a rush of carbonation followed by a glass and bottle overflowing with foam. I used two glasses so I could get all the beer out of the bottle and off the thick sediment that seemed to be encouraging the vigorous foaming. My first inclination is to think this must be infected, but even if it is it smells great so onward I plunge willingly into this crazy brew. The beer is a glowing copper-amber with a crazy beige head as previously described. It’s rocky and lasting with large bubbles. the aroma is resinous, floral perfumed, and showing hints of citrus all on top of very mild biscuit and butter malts. Digging deeper, there’s a nice emergence of brett and his cohorts in those perfumes, but they’re mingling nicely with the rest of the players and that’s just fine by me. The body is as active as expected with massive effervescence, airy and light. Soft, fresh, buttery notes add a sweetness and creaminess to the earthy hops and toasty malts. Like the aroma, there are birght highlights of citrus pith, resin, and delectable floral notes. Whatever is wrong with this stuff (infection, if it’s that) has done nothing to diminish my enjoyment of it other than the body being too bubbly and light. Given some time in the glass, even this is remedied and the beer is quite nice overall.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 micronaut129 (45) - chalfontborotowntonville, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 19, 2012
Pours a good amber color with a hazy complexion, maybe chill haze. The foamy tan head is a fair size and with lacing dotting the glass. Carbonation is light. Aroma has a quite aromatic hop bouquet smelling like floral and herbal hops.Malts have a good caramel base. there is low levels of diaceytl in the aroma I must point out. Taste is hop forward with a pretty densent hop bill. Hops have a floral taste. Malts have a caramel taste and do a good job of boosting up the hops. Has a medium weight on the palette with a slick, smooth feel. Dry and bitter at th end.
I feel this is a pretty good interpretation of the English style IPA.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 bigtaster (292) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - MAR 22, 2012
Clear brown, off white head, frothy. Nice musty hop nose, pineapple. Light body, refreshing. Slight pine flavors just enough bitterness, could use more floral fruity. Fits the style good drinker.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 acearl (285) - The Ham, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 11, 2012
Clear rust hue with creamy off white white long lasting head, smells carmel malt and resin, taste is more malt than hop, kind of a creamy texture with minimal carbonation, some bitterness but nothing too distinguishing from a hop standpoint, a little metallic and skunky, decent, not really west coast style
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 KickInChalice (771) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 7, 2012
From notes. First reviewed 8/27/2011. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.
This pours a copper amber color with an unfiltered look. A dollop of white foam rests on top, and it demonstrates brilliant retention and leaves a sheet of lace down the glass.
Biscuity malt with a light sweet quality to it, with a blend of soft citrus hops create the nose.
The taste is fairly simple and follows the nose nicely. A soft biscuity malt starts lightly sweet. The hops are mostly grapefruit in nature, with some soft orange zest. The finish is a little bitter.
The body is a little bit thin for my taste. The carbonation is nice and creamy, and although there is a light graininess, it is nice and smooth.
This does not fall into the explosive IPA category, but it is pleasant and drinkable.
2.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Spartan213 (6) - Macomb, Michigan, USA - FEB 23, 2012 does not count
Pours a clear gold with a foamy white head, good lacing. Just a hint of hops in the aroma, more of a caramel malt. Taste is mostly malt up front with a bit of citrus hops at the end. I agree this tastes more like a pale ale than an ipa. For that it’s pretty good actually, but for an ipa not my favorite.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 tdcritch (153) - Missouri, USA - FEB 14, 2012
Aroma is more malty instead of hops. It is darker for an IPA. Taste is lightly sweet then bitter. Smooth on the palate with a small head. Not the best IPA, seems more like a pale ale.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 badlizard (4405) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 30, 2012
Bottle. Clear golden with a foamy white head. Strong grapefruit, orange, and lime aroma and taste with caramel notes and a crisp bready finish and a bright lively palate. Quite good.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Voodoo (86) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 29, 2012
Pours an orange with a very large almost fluffy head. Very thin mouthfeel with a slight pulpy taste. Very slight hops taste and bitter finish. Unimpressive as an IPA, it’s taste lends itself more to a pale despite the IBU count.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 rondphoto (606) - Lakeside Park, Kentucky, USA - NOV 19, 2011
Cloudy golden amber with persistent head and good lace. Taste begins with caramel malt, but it quickly gives ways to citrus-pine hoppiness, which carries through the finish. As an IPA, it is more agreeable than some of the stronger examples, but the flavor is one-note and not memorable.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 fiercepanda (292) - Missouri, USA - SEP 23, 2011
A hazy light brown beer with a small off white head that leaves nice lacing. The aroma is grapefruit, pine, and floral. The flavor is very floral with a fruity finish, mildly bitter and full bodied. A solid ipa.
