3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle... Poured copper orange with an off-white head. Nose had candied malt sweetness with hints of pumpkin spice. Spicy, pie-like, some vegetal squash but very faint. Hints of honey and mint with cinnamon. Overall, low on squash, high on pumpkin pie spice.

Bottle. Dark golden orange with Minsk head. Way too much allspice and cinnamon. Couldn't finish the bottle.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
I...love this beer. Few things make me think of fall in Michigan more than Jaw Jacker. Head is creamy but almost non-existent. Color is beautiful red amber. Aroma makes me think of pumpkin pie...lots of nutmeg, though with a slightly crisp apple. Taste? Wow...buttery cinnamon and nutmeg, with just enough carbonation and hops to be crisp and refreshing. Not too complex, but very well balanced. Cheers!
Note: this is a pumpkin SPICED beer, NOT a pumpkin beer, nor does it claim to be anywhere on the bottle. The bottle says "ale with spices added (cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg)." If you're looking for a pumpkin beer, search elsewhere. If you're looking for a damn tasty and refreshing fall brew, open a bottle already!

Aroma is cinnamon and nutmeg. Taste is sweet and malty, and has a nice light hoppy bitterness. Not crazy about pumpkin beers.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Purchased at Breeze Thru Liquors in Wauwatosa, WI, enjoyed on a Sunday late in the Bears season while watching a game. Appearance is a cloudy dark gold with a small but frothy white head that rims around the glass. Aroma is pretty sweet with a sweet pumpkin/clove/cinnamon profile. Taste is also very sweet with a pumpkin pie like flavor, but to me it tastes a bit artificial, not much malt unless in the back end. Not bad, just ok.

I don’t really care for pumpkin beers, so this fall beer is right up my alley, because it has the spices of pumpkin pie without the pumpkin. I like this beer because you can tasted the nutmeg and cinnamon without it overpowering the beer and becoming overly sweet. If I want something that tastes like a can of pumpkin pie filling, I’ll eat a can of pumpkin pie filling.

A lot of pumpkin ales are just seasonal silliness, but a couple have the ability to overcome that stigma and present a truly well brewed beer with interesting flavors and unique palates. Jaw Jacker is one of those pumpkin ales with a hell of a punch of barley, wheat, and spices. A decent example of a pumpkin beer that tastes as good as the idea of a pumpkin beer sounds, Jaw Jacker is an autumnal pleasure.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a dark amber with a one finger head. Aroma is very spicy. Cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice make themselves prevalent. Taste is very spicy as well but not from hops, from the spices they pack into this beer. Palate is medium, slighty watery on the back end after the spices wash away. Overall a decent beer, perfect for what its for. The fall.

Draft at Moriartys. Slightly hazy orange brown pour with a slim head that seemed to disappear quickly. Lots of aggressive Pumpkin Pie spice. Not pulling any punches spicewise, but as for actual pumpkin flavor - one has to look hard to find it. Though the body is still quite full and juicy. There are some medium wheat flavors hiding well underneath, but mostly the spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, the usual suspects) are so far forward that the bitterness make it feel like a strong IPA. Not my favorite, but at least not the same old Pumpkin beer.
