sheatripper (831), Brooklyn, New York, USA Sep 7, 2008 Cask at Brazen Head. Poured copper/amber. Flowery and peachy aroma. Flavor of toasty malts, with a good amount of fruitiness--sweet peaches and strawberries came to mind-- with a wisp of grassy and citrusy hops at the end. Even with all the nectary notes however, it was not overly sweet and basically enjoyable. timsilvia32 (286), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Aug 19, 2008 Amber pour, cream head. Aroma slightly malty biscuit. Flavor is similar, slightly creamy, on the negative maybe a little bit of tea. Hops balance and finish this clean. As someone noted in here, the bottle does not match this out of the tap. Still pretty basic though. Glouglouburp (2113), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jul 4, 2008 In short: A typical but very much above average ESB. Crisp and highly drinkable. Good stuff.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Clear golden copper body with a small beige head
In long: Rather full body for the style. Crisp caramel. Light citrus flavour. Leafy English-style hops. Perfect balance. Overall fresh crispness sensation with a little tartness in the finish. Extremely drinkable session ale. Appropriate medium carbonation although this thing is meant for a cask. I’m a bit surprised at the overall low ratings on this beer. Maybe the bottle doesn’t measure up to the tap or maybe Americans just cannot appreciate a good ESB. This was my opinion on Arcadia Lake Superior superior ESB (not a typo).
PilsnerPeter (1622), Flushing, New York, USA Jun 6, 2008 Cask at Barcade: Deep orange pour with a very dense tan head that laces very well. Nice aroma. Fruity with hints of mandarin orange, apricot and a biscuit touch. Creamy body. The flavor has a very soft malt back making it very drinkable. Smooth British hops upfront give it a subtle apricot fruit note and has more spicy hop character in the finish. Balanced and easily sessioned. polomagnifico (429), Saginaw, USA May 19, 2008 Aroma of honey and flowers. Large off-white head. Good decent bitters. Watery soft. Pretty average ESB.
