Pours a very dark reddish brown with a beige head, like an Indian stripper. Nose is alcohol, smoke, and cherries. More smoke and cherries in the taste with some caramel too. Smooth and a nice smokey hop finish. Great beer for a cold evening.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 polomagnifico (939) - Saginaw, Michigan, USA - OCT 2, 2011
Bottle. Aroma has notes of caramel, plums, cereal malts, licorice and dark bread. Very dark brown hue with a small light tan head that mostly diminished and left good lace. Flavor is heavy sweet. Palate is medium bodied and watery soft. Overall a nicely tasting brew with good aroma. Palate is a little thin but overall a decent brew.

12 oz. bottle from Dressel’s. Served in a small imperial-style pint glass. Pours a cloudy, dark brown color iwth a tiny off-white head. The look is about all that seems to be right with this one. Aroma of dark fruits, clove, banana, caramel, earth, and molasses. Flavor also has clove and banana on top of plum, caramel malts, earth, and a woodsy note. Medium-bodied, with a fruity, earthy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Scotch ale? This was basically a mediocre dunkelweizen.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 flatmatt (772) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - SEP 9, 2011
12 oz bottle. Pours reddish brown with an off-white head. Aroma has toffee, dark fruit, and some caramel. Flavor is somewhat smoky, with cherry, toffee, smoky peated malts that border on bacon, almost hints of cocoa. Fairly sweet. Tasting quite good right now.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Johnsense (281) - - AUG 20, 2011
Cola black pour with a fast disappearing head. Aroma of raisin, black liquorice, dried blueberry, peat moss. Taste is more complex - Dried dark fruits and raisin and a slight bit of peat moss, rye bread malts, black liquorice, a very slight hint of brandy, burnt caramel, chesnut and mosasses. A bit watery but fairly easy do drink for a scotch ale. Pretty tasty - I wish the smell reflected that better.

Outstanding complexity in this Scottish Strong from Battle Creek as well as some very agreeable hopiness that the ’real’ Scots seemed to have passed on. I don’t really care for the bland overly sweet maltiness of ’real’ Scottish Strong ales, but Arcadia’s version is outstanding. Here’s te ya!

12oz bottle from Woodmans poured into a Lager glass. Pours a dark nut brown with a small bit of off-white head. Aroma is roasty malt and citrus hops. Taste is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Has strong caramel taste. Medium bodied with a thick texture. Soft carbonation and a long slightly bitter finish. Overall, this is damn good. Very glad I bought a 6-pack so I can have more than one.

Pours a cola color with a thin, small bead tan head. Aroma is caramel and prunes. For a very flavorful ale, this is quite smooth and well balanced. Taste is sweet roasted malt, dried dark fruit, molasses and a butteriness. Bitterness and some alcohol notes after the swallow. Pretty damn good! BTW, my bottle says 8% ABV.
