3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Lubiere (6979) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 8, 2009
A deep reddish brown ale with a thin light moka head and granular floaties. Nice vinous caramel aroma, with light juniper notes, and warming alcohol. In mouth, a sweet caramel malt with light molasses, peaty notes, a bit of licorice. Rich and smooth, a good example of the style. Tasted with Probstk, Jan 11 2009.

Sweet malty aroma chocolate notes. Opaque brown, thin light tan head clings to edge of glass. Sweet with dry roasted malt notes, bitter finish lingers in the mouth. Medium bodied.

12-oz. Thanks, BeachBum25! Crystal clear dark brown with rubied highlights. Dense, creamy tan head. Laceless. Big peaty caramel nose. Creamy medium body--peat, smoke, earthy tang, wet leaves. Delicious.

12 fl. oz. bottle shared by Lubiere (merci!), served almost cold in a goblet. JA11/09.
App.: Deep copper, rim of tan, big chunks of yeast.
Aroma: Definite funk, peat smoke, a little caramel, a little tangy fruit, kinda tight.
Palate: Medium-full body, moderate effervescence.
Flav.: Caramel/toffee, some meaty smoke, a touch metallic, a little vinous, fairly fruity; quite sweet with some lingering caramel and peat smoke.
Restrained smoke, a bit like an Abbey Dubbel to me.

Bottled. Very deep ruby in color. STong malty aromas. Some sweetness and a little bit of rootbeer. Somewhat nutty. Rich malty flavored. Some scotch like qualities, along with some sweetness. Alcohol is well hidden. Pretty tasty.

Bottle courtesy Beachbum25. Pours a blackish red with a thin off white head. Dark malt, roasted grain, hints of peat and sweetness in the aroma. Sweet slightly smoky taste with good smooth malt and roasted grain body. Good stuff.

12 oz bottle-deep ruby red color w/almost no head. Roasted malt aroma. Rich full flavor of roasted malt, caramel, toffee & roasted nuts. Very smooth & easy to drink. Alcohol was very well hidden-had no idea it was this high until I went to rate it. Classic example of this style-long matly mouthfeel. I really enjoyed this one & would love to try it fresh on tap!

Smells strongly of smoke flavor with some bitter hops as well. Taste is pungent smoke with dark chocolately malts and some bitter hops. Very nice scotch ale, if you can stand the smokiness

12 oz bottle pours a dark brown with almost no head. Malty nose some charred notes. Caramel, roasted malts, the hops are fading and the malts are annoyingly fruity. Finishes with the fruity malts becoming dry. Not to enjoyable.
