Iím 90% sure this uses sugar to attain a higher alcohol level -- it just doesnít taste like it relies on natural maltiness. Still, Arcadiaís version is an ok beer that still exhibits plenty of caramel maltiness and even a touch of hops. Very dark chestnut color with minimal head but rich body. Recommended, but this is "a world apart" from anything actually produced in Bonny Scotland, as Brits from any of the provinces tend to avoid adding sugar (which is one of the reasons most of their beers are 4.5% or lower but taste great!) But this one would specifically qualify as a nice Winter warmer, for it has a certain cold-weather blankety softness in its sweetness and a potent stout finish -- recommended in the end. ... or should I say the Final Analysis ... maybe not, Iím gay-neutral! Just give it a try, you might like it (not GAY, this beer!)

(bottle) Pours a black-brown with thin tan head. Aroma is sweet malt with prune and some peat. The flavor is roasted with mild malt sweetness and warming 8% ABV accentuated. Good call for wet winter weather. New improved labels issued from brewer than RB photo.

Drank out of a bottle, 2/25/14. No head whatsoever, virtually flat. Smells of caramel, toffee, and plum, slightly sweet. Pours a dark ruby, slightly hazy when held up to a light. Medium body, sweet with some lingering bitterness.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Whiskey colored pour, no head. Very carmel scent, sweet/sour dark fruits too. Low carbonation, oily mouthfeel , a bit of heat on finish. Very sweet flavor, butterscotch and carmel, dark fruits and raisins and bitter peat. Not my favorite style but a good scorch ale for sure.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle thanks to a trade with jdb288! Labeled as 8% abv. Pours a translucent reddish brown with thin lacy tan head that leaves good lace. Aroma is boozy smoke and caramel malt, almost a isopropyl alcohol note. Taste is a nice blend of smoke malt and caramel sweetness, just a slight hint of the booze here. Not bad, medium body and carbonation.
