Travel to a time of brewer’s lore, when smoke was spelled "smoake," when dark beers held the collective hearts and mind of the people of merry old England. Believe it or not, back in the 1850s, Porter ruled the beer world, and no one brewed Porter like the brewers of London. Drawing their water from the Thames, blending old and new batches, and experimenting with new types of malt, Porter evolved throughout the years, and probably at one time held some substantial smoakiness. Arcadia’s London Porter draws on this rich historic tradition, but adds a few special twists to make it all our own. The flavor of London Porter is multi-layered, starting with a bold, pleasing sweetened coffee richness, which gives way to round and subtle smoke, much like a delicately smoked ham. Porcine sweetness is capped by a gloss of fig jam or cherry compote, fruity and complex. Faint pear and hay notes barely poke through, reminders that there are some delightful American Glacier hops under all the finery.

Black pour with red hue, small amount of beige head. Smokey/peaty/leathery scent. Flavor follows the nose but it’s not too heavy, campfire-like. Low carbonation with a clean finish. Nice smoked porter.

Dark brown color, no head. Has a smokey, burnt caramel and beef jerky smell. The smokey caramel flavor comes out nicely, along with some malts in the background. Pretty good porter.

Pours a pitch black with a nice khaki head. Just beautiful. Amoras of malt and smoke. Taste is robust chocolate, dark malt and smoke. Palate is full bodied. Very thick mouthfeel. Overall a must try porter. Great dark malt presence and great smoke latency. Well done.

12 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter. Neck stamp declares Dec. 2012 bottling date. Pours a very dark brown, looking black and opaque in the glass. Topped by a modest size tan head that has good retention. Aroma: clearly off style, this smells like smoked meat. Taste: flollows aroma: this is a smoked porter. Never had a British porter like this. Feel: Full body; medium-light, soft carbonation; fairly smooth O: for smoke beer enthusiasts.

Pours an opaque brown with ruby highlights, a big khaki colored head with good retention and great lacing. The nose is dark roasted malt with some caramel, chocolate and slight smokiness. Taste is slightly charred and roasted malt with some caramel sweetness upfront and a hint of grape. Midpalate you get espresso bean flavor and bitterness along with some chocolate, charred malt and licorice. The bitterness and smoky charred flavors linger in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is almost creamy and medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Very nice porter with well balanced flavors. The slight smokiness combines with the bitter and sweet characters to give it a rich taste.
