COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Travel to a time of brewer’s lore, when smoke was spelled "smoake," when dark beers held the collective hearts and mind of the people of merry old England. Believe it or not, back in the 1850s, Porter ruled the beer world, and no one brewed Porter like the brewers of London. Drawing their water from the Thames, blending old and new batches, and experimenting with new types of malt, Porter evolved throughout the years, and probably at one time held some substantial smoakiness. Arcadia’s London Porter draws on this rich historic tradition, but adds a few special twists to make it all our own. The flavor of London Porter is multi-layered, starting with a bold, pleasing sweetened coffee richness, which gives way to round and subtle smoke, much like a delicately smoked ham. Porcine sweetness is capped by a gloss of fig jam or cherry compote, fruity and complex. Faint pear and hay notes barely poke through, reminders that there are some delightful American Glacier hops under all the finery.

Chocolate and roasted malts dominate the aroma. A beautiful brown head held steady for a few minutes atop the deep brown ale. Its taste is a hint of sweetness followed by medium bitterness, but not too bitter to upset the balance. Well bodied for an English Porter, the texture is slick, carbonation is average, and finish is long. London Porter is well done, and worth a try if you can find it.

Poured into a perfect pint. 3.75 A: Black color. Two fingers of frothy light brown head. Retention is about average and a lot of lacing is left. 4.0 S: This smells mainly of tangy roastiness with smoky components. I’m not sure if this is a smoked beer or not, but it certainly seems that way. Aside from that, there’s plenty of chocolate with some caramel and molasses. I keep getting a whiff of pig, so I have to assume this is smoked. Smells good. 3.75 T: Taste is like the nose. Tangy roastiness, campfire and porcine smoke, chocolate. Underneath is caramel, molasses, and maybe a touch of dark fruits. 3.75 M: Medium to heavier medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Pleasant creaminess makes this go down quite smoothly. 3.75 D: Solid beer all around. No complaints. DavoleBomb, Jul 09, 2013

On tap at Molly Malloy’s in Philly on 6/19. Aroma of coffee and roast malt. Flavors of dry cocoa, coffee, toaster malt, smoke, licorice with a trace of booze. Delicious.

Extrem schokoladiger Geruch.

Sehr ausgewogen. Sprittig im Nachgeschmack.

12 oz bottle. This unassuming brew is nearly perfect. Just the right taste of coffee and molasses pair perfectly with some smokey malted goodness. Just wish my bottle had WC on it instead of what I got.

Solide. Ce porter robuste est tout simplement solide.

355 mL bottle. Pours black with walnut hues and a thin head of off white. Aroma is chocolate, subtle smoke, dark fruits, leather and deep caramel, a little applesauce on the finish and some minty hops. Lightly sweet maltiness balanced with a little roast. Moderate plus body and low to average carbonation. A nice big English type porter. Very good.

Draught @ Albion. Dark brown with reddish tint, small beige creamy head, light coffee aroma, low carbonation, coffee-caramel taste, medium finish with slight alcohol aftertaste. Great porter!

Pours thin black with a small white fizz that dissolves to a ring. Aroma is slightly fruity, smoked ham and light coffee. Taste is light on the palate with slight smokiness and fruit with some chocolate sweetness. Very nice.

Bottle from LCBO. Pours black with tan head that doesn’t last too long. Nose is bittersweet chocolate and roasted malt. Taste is more roasted malt and chocolate notes. Very balanced and smooth. Bitterness on the finish is just right. Creamy-ish mouthfeel. Hard to stop sipping.
