Sample at the brewpub on 3/29/13. Pours a clear reddish brown with a medium beige head. Aroma of malt, nuts and caramel. Malty flavor with a grapey and nutty character before a malty finish.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Poured a deep brown color with a very large, bubbly tan head. Slightly sweet toffee malt aroma. More of the same with the flavor, with a subtle hint of sourness and peanuts in the finish. Well carbonated with a dry texture. Medium bodied. Drinkable, but leaves a weird lingering taste.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle, bottled 11/01/12. Cool hazy brown color, lots of particles in the body. Thin off-white head, leaves a couple dots of lace. Medium-plus body. More smooth, crisp carbonation. Nutty, chocolatey taste. Some dark fruit (dates), light earthy hop. Interesting taste. Sweet, light bitter. Interesting brown ale... I dig the light fruitiness

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Had on-tap at Green Dot Stables in Detroit. $3 for a 12oz mug. Hadnít had it before, so why not.
Appearance: Dark, dark brown with a little, brown, creamy head. Not much lacing to be seen. A pretty average brown ale.
Smell: For some reason, I didnít pull much out. Maybe my sniffer was broken. Very faint, dirty malt aroma, with maybe some traces of coffee. Almost reminiscent of a stout, but then again, I always figure brown ales are just a small step behind a stout/porter.
Taste/feel: Average is as average does. It tastes like the smell... light on the aroma, light on the taste... easy drinking, but itís just a middle-of-the-road brown thatís just not that interesting. Arcadia doesnít make the best beer, but they make typical examples of styles without trying to "change the rules", so to speak.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Nice medium to dark brown color with good fluffy head that stays around for a bit. Aroma quite weak - some nutty malt and cocoa, but fainter than Iíd like - have to search around for it. Starts out bland but has a very nice toasty, nutty, cocoa finish and bready aftertaste. Pretty standard, decent example of the style. Highly drinkable.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 12/4/2012. Pours lightly hazy reddish brown color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, toast, cocoa, brown bread, light nuttiness, roasted malt, and floral hop earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity. Taste of caramel, brown sugar, toast, chocolate, dark bread, light nuttiness, roasted malt, light raisin, and floral hop earthiness. Slight earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toast, chocolate, dark bread, light nuttiness, roasted malt, and floral earthiness on the finish for a bit. Nice balance and robustness of malty flavors; with hardly any cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy, lightly slick, and earthy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a nice brown ale. Good balance and robustness of flavors; and very smooth to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering; though not as nutty as I would expect given the nut brown title.
