3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 11/20 marv3mania (67) - Lansing, Michigan, USA - MAY 5, 2013
12 oz. bottle poured into tumbler. Appearance is a pale golden color with a thin white head which dissipates quickly. Aroma is a slightly skunky citrus scent, like orange and lemon, with a bit of rye spiciness. The taste, though, is fairly unpleasant. It is skunky malts with little in the way of hops or rye. It reminds me of a pale lager. It has the mouth of an ale. I think that I must have gotten a bottle that was sitting out too long, because this beer has good rating, but mine is pretty disappointing.

Golden beer out of the bottle with a thin white head. Very floral hop nose. Strong bready grain flavor with caramel sweetness and a strong hop resin bitterness. I’ve always enjoyed rye in a beer, and this is a nice one.

Pours a pale golden with a thinner eggshell head that leaves some blotchy lacing behind. Nose involves some piney perfume notes, spicy rye, some dust, noble hop spice, light honey and peach notes. Some sweetness but much more bitterness. Medium bodied, softer, creamy, with a nice bitter fruit finish. Definitely tasty. Good balance of fruit and spice, and very drinkable.

If you want a rye, you’ve got a rye.
Had this one straight out of a bottle, as I got it at Green Dot Stables in Detroit. $3 for it. Since I had it out of the bottle, passing up the appearance.
Smell and taste/feel: Rye. Touches of some sweetness to balance out the bitterness of the rye. Medium carbonation with a medium feel. Great example of the style, though this isn’t my bag. I like a rye that tastes like Smitten Golden Rye by Bell’s. Still, this is one I’d have again ... especially if I weren’t four beers deep beforehand.
