In honor of our adventurous friends at Sky Dive Inc. in Hastings, Michigan, we crafted a truly adventurous brew in Sky High Rye. A West Coast-style Pale Ale with rye malt, Sky High Rye boasts a massive floral aroma of resinous hops. The hops contribute flavor notes of lemons, peaches, and pine needles, combined with the sweet, malty flavors of toffee and bread. Rye adds a pleasant peppery, spicy note like a fresh slice of pumpernickel bread. Very well-rounded and very drinkable, Sky High Rye will surely inspire adventure in all who taste it.
This West Coast-style Pale Ale is brewed with eighty percent English barley malts and twenty percent rye malt. It boasts a massive floral aroma of resinous hops, contributing notes of lemons, peaches and pine needles and is anchored by the sweet malty flavors of toffee and freshly baked pumpernickel bread.

12oz can. Unfiltered bright orange-tan body. Steady foamy white head. A lot of Rye in the aroma, coupled with some earthy lemony hops. Brighter than most Rye beers, but kind of odd and unenjoyable still. Sticky sweet tones all over the place. I am really not fond of Rye 90% of the time. Kind of gross, not off, just not enjoyable at all.

12 oz can from my buddy czar, thanks mate. Pours a slightly veiled golden-straw with a thick, resilient white head. Aroma is dry potato, peppercorn, dust. Flavor is spicy, fruity, cereals, pepper. Finish is very spicy, pepper, mint, some herbs. A tad bit lemony, too. Medium body, average carbonation.

Transfer from BA review on 5-9-14- Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – The beer is served a nice golden amber color with a one finger head of white foam. The head fades rather fast leaving a decent leave of foam on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is light overall with some hints of a mainly a bready smell along with a bit of a citrus hoppy smell. Some other light peppery rye smalls are there as well with just a hint of pine. Taste – The taste begins with a bready and light rye taste mixed with a tangerine sweetness and some grapefruit upfront. There is a little bit of caramel that is later lost as it is buried by more citrus tangerine and grapefruit hop. All the while the rye builds a bit with it bringing along with it some lighter hop flavors of pine. In the end, with the bittering of the grapefruit hop and the moderateness of the rye flavors, one is left with a somewhat moderately fruity, bready rye, and decently bittered grapefruit hop taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side. Both are rather nice for the mix of rye bread flavors as well as the hops and makes for a nice easy drinker. Overall – A rather easy drinking sweeter and more moderate rye brew. A nice one to try if you get a chance.

The aromas are on the light side with a mostly fruit note and a touch of pepper spice. Not much grain or bread that I could pick up, and would associate with a rye beer, but there are some faint traces mostly covered by a light caramel note. It pours a light hazy yellow with a white frothy head that doesn’t retain very well, although a wispy surface layer is left behind. The lace is runny. It’s a medium sweet and medium light bitter combination. The texture is thin and oily with a medium light body and lots of light, fizzy carbonation. It drinks smooth with a mostly sweet fruit body (citrus predominantly) along with some breadiness, light toffee, and a light pepper note at the finish. The pepper sticks around for a short time in the aftertaste to clean things up nicely.
