In honor of our adventurous friends at Sky Dive Inc. in Hastings, Michigan, we crafted a truly adventurous brew in Sky High Rye. A West Coast-style Pale Ale with rye malt, Sky High Rye boasts a massive floral aroma of resinous hops. The hops contribute flavor notes of lemons, peaches, and pine needles, combined with the sweet, malty flavors of toffee and bread. Rye adds a pleasant peppery, spicy note like a fresh slice of pumpernickel bread. Very well-rounded and very drinkable, Sky High Rye will surely inspire adventure in all who taste it.

Look for the new label. Pouring a golden color edging into orangeness with a light white head and light lacing to match, this is one big mouthful of pepper and peach. Itís rich, itís bright, itís happily carbonated, itís got some citrus in it from those grapefruity hops, and nicely dry on the palate thanks to all that rye-ey goodness.

UPDATED: JUN 21, 2013 Ok, I tried this previously and apparently got a bad bottle. It proved to be much better this time. Pours a golden straw color. Aroma is light malt, bitter hops, and spicy rye. Taste follows the nose pretty closely. Light, crisp feel. This isnít the best rye ale Iíve had, but itís certainly not bad.

Golden beer out of the bottle with a thin white head. Very floral hop nose. Strong bready grain flavor with caramel sweetness and a strong hop resin bitterness. Iíve always enjoyed rye in a beer, and this is a nice one.

Pours a pale golden with a thinner eggshell head that leaves some blotchy lacing behind. Nose involves some piney perfume notes, spicy rye, some dust, noble hop spice, light honey and peach notes. Some sweetness but much more bitterness. Medium bodied, softer, creamy, with a nice bitter fruit finish. Definitely tasty. Good balance of fruit and spice, and very drinkable.

If you want a rye, youíve got a rye. Had this one straight out of a bottle, as I got it at Green Dot Stables in Detroit. $3 for it. Since I had it out of the bottle, passing up the appearance. Smell and taste/feel: Rye. Touches of some sweetness to balance out the bitterness of the rye. Medium carbonation with a medium feel. Great example of the style, though this isnít my bag. I like a rye that tastes like Smitten Golden Rye by Bellís. Still, this is one Iíd have again ... especially if I werenít four beers deep beforehand.
