COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Starboard Stout is a unique Irish Oat Malt Stout. Deep black in color, with garnet undertones, it has a robust yet well-balanced chocolatey roasted malt character and a creamy mouthfeel. A subtle and complex hop flavor and aroma is provided by Willamette and Cascade.

Aroma of roasted malts and a bit of chocolate. The flavor, too, was just as stout-like, offering roasted malts learning toward the burnt side with a hint of choclate. But there was also a slight metallic aftertaste on top of the hop bitterness. Finish on the dry side. Fairly smooth mouthfeel. The pour was black. Nice try, but didn’t come together for me.

For being labeled a sweet stout I thought this was rather dry. A: was ok. A: was probably the best thing about it, beautiful. T: a little flat, lacks umph. P: not a thick as you would want from a stout. O: not a bad stout but it could be so much more.

On tap @ beer exchange. Pours a solid black with a creamy white head. Taste is roasted malts, chocolate. Texture very creamy smooth. Pretty thin and dry for an oatmeal stout. Odd metallic taste in the finish. Overall though not bad, would drink again.

A complex hop body sits under a pillowy, dank white head. Foam is long in this one, with a slight carbonation and a nice malt balance.

Enjoyed at the Map Room in Chicago, IL while celebrating a friends birthday. I didn’t take tasting notes for this one, but I remember this being a pretty good, standard frothy stout. Appearance is pitch black with a frothy, creamy white head. Aroma of chocolate malt and lactose. Taste is creamy and smooth with chocolate and light coffee notes, also a subtle hint of nuts. Good stuff.

On tap at Jac Cekolas, portage mi. Dark black pour, offwhite head that's dense and in appearance. Smells of sweet Carmel malts and creamy oats. Smooth mouth feel with little carbonation. Roasted Carmel in the flavor with a touch of bitter, licorice maybe. Finish is laden with spices, allspice or nutmeg. A little dry too. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

not bad but bitter and high roast. need to tame it down a bit to make it more approachable. more chocolate less black malt

Dark pour with an espresso head. Aroma of chocolate and roast. Taste is very bitter. I think this beer suffers from a little too much roast.

Draft. Pour is black with a thick frothy head. The aroma is light with very little malt. The taste is pretty thin on flavor, but a mouthful. Wanted more from it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pretty heavy roast character with some backing chocolate. Flavor has heavy roast and is a bit acrid. Too dry and astringent.
