jeffwilliams11 (257), hooterville, Michigan, USA Mar 16, 2008 pours deep black with a thick tan head that just will not go away. in fact, it is so overcarbonated that pouring is a chore that takes about 10 minutes. its like pouring a rootbeer float...
tastes good though, a little coffee/chocolate flavor, a little acidic. fairly sweet, and a little watery.
sethdude (520), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Sep 5, 2008 Underrated. I’ve said it a thousand times before, but solid, traditional stouts are being overlooked due to the rise of imperial and double stouts, and people have developed an incredibly narrow and warped perception of what a stout is or should be. This one pours a deep black with a medium tan head. Aroma is somewhat faint, chocolate dominates with undertones of cherry and light tobacco. Flavor starts faint, but grows into a large burned toast/chocolate peak, tapering off to lighter chocolate notes, mild dark fruit, smoke, and a slightly earthy/grassy finish. Somewhat thin mouthfeel, though not unforgivably so. Good effort, good session beer. Please raters, lets stop comparing everything to Dark Lord. BigBeer45 (477), Troy, Michigan, USA Aug 23, 2008 Pours black with a faint red transparency at the edges, a big full dark tan bubbled head in the glass, bottle has a covering of sediment, aroma of dark roasted malt, hints of chocolate, has some milk chocolate sweetness, vanilla? Dark roasted malt flavors, grain flavor, roasted malt and hop bitterness at the finish, has a faint cream sweetness, touch of earth and berry flavors, mouth feel is a bit thin, ok stout. nearbeer (1237), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Aug 8, 2008 12 oz. Opaque with a huge crunchy head that lasts. Fragrance of overripe cherry, cocoa and wood ash. Flavor is chalk, char, coffee and cherry/raspberry. Light-medium body is smooth and chalky dry. esjaygee (733), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Aug 7, 2008 Lifeless deep brown with a very thin head around long enough for me to type this sentence. Aroma of roasted malts, smoke, pear and sweet malts. Taste of deep roasted malts, coffee with a semi bitter finish. hombrepalo (467), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 1, 2008 12 oz bottle. A nice caramel colored head atop a black body. Sweet caramel and irish creme aroma. Hoppy flavor in a pretty good overall stout. Chocolate and dryness are both enjoyable, with a nice dark appearance and head. There was something there I didn’t really care for.
