COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Thunder Trail ESB stays true to our English Brewing Heritage. With a strong backbone of Maris Otter and Crystal malts, this Extra Special Bitter is balanced by earthy, spicy, English hops. Our Ringwood yeast strain imparts a dis-tinctly fruity character that is accented by dry-hopping with a modest amount if Palisade hops. We hope you enjoy this quality session ale ó wherever the Trail may take you.

Pours clear, dark, almost brownish amber with a very thick and rather persistent frothy eggshell head. Strong, malty aroma has notes of caramel, cloves and hops. Flavor has a malty core and even more cloves and hops, plus earthy and caramel undertones for a well-rounded flavor; bitterness gets your attention but isnít pushy. Mouthfeel has average body and fizz, while finish adds a fruity tone to the flavor. Follow this trail to some good beer.

Poured into a perfect pint. 3.75 A: Lightly hazed dark orange color. Two fingers of frothy off-white head. Retention is about average or a touch better and a short ring of lacing is left. 3.75 S: Toasty, grainy malts to start things off. Plentiful caramel with hints of toffee. Just a faint touch of yeastiness. Simple, yet so very pleasant. 3.75 T: Taste mirrors the nose. Toastiness is the foremost flavor. Graininess, a few layers of caramel, and toffee follow. Again just a touch of bready yeastiness. 3.75 M: Medium body. Mild chewiness from the yeast. Good creaminess. Solid here. 3.75 D: A well rounded beer for sure. Not a ton of complexity, but the flavors are in perfect proportion. DavoleBomb, Jul 10, 2013

Bottle. Pours a dark amber color, with fair head that fades slowly. Aroma of malt, some dark fruit and hint of hops. Taste of malt, dark fruit and bit of spice. Nice bitterness and a dry finish. Medium body, smooth w itís a nice malt feel. Nice beer that goes down easy.

I honestly have limited experience with ESBís. They are relatively new to me. That being said, this is a tasty beer (isnít that the real goal here). Itís not bitter like an IPA...instead itís a little sour with a touch of fruity bitter, like an orange peel or to a lesser extent, a lime. Itís very tasty and a nice change of pace for someone who prefers Stouts and Porters...for whatever thatís worth. Cheers!

Bottle; poured a dark orange to amber with a huge frothy head. Aroma of prange, toffee, chalk and herbs. A balanced beer; some toffee, earth, fruit; a touch of sweetness and bitterness.

A giant white head - filled more than 80% of the glass even with a gentle pour. Tastes sour instead of bitter, not enough malt. Some hops sort of come through. Oh well.

Pours a massive pillowy head that lasts a long time. Really well balanced with fruity esters, sweet malt, and earthy hops. Excellent session beer.

Tessic (927) - Brantford, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 8, 2014
This ale poured a medium amber colour with a nice, white head. Little lacing. Scents include ripe fruit and a little vinegar. First swig was a little off with flavours of tea, light vinegar and hops. Finish is not nice with strange off flavour. Strong hop bitterness that doesn't seem to match a hop flavour.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear deep amber with a gray head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a lot of grass notes with some light grain and just a hint of pine coming through. Flavor has bitter pine up front that mellows in to a grass and light grain finish.

From a bottle this has a big volatile sweet aroma. How could they say this is a session brew at 6%, more than most other esb. Yes, taste is like a cross between a esb and an ipa. What gives? Quite hoppy in a weird kind of way. So much so that it leaves a bitter medicinal aftertaste on the sides of your tongue after each swig. Not nearly as good as the refined Wychwood Hobgoblin or Wells Bombardier. Surprised its even in the same style considering the IPA or strong apa attitude. Yes needs a few manners. Nice motorcycle on the label dude.
