3.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On cask at Arcadia. Aroma is sweet, of molasses with a citrusy clementine background and some dark fruit and beet sugar I would expect in a dark Belgian - mellow hoppiness comes out as it warms up; some oaky whiskey up front. Thick lace curtains, coffee black, visually beautiful. Tastes like a dark Belgian to me, dark fruit play a large role while coffee is in the background and citrus lightens it up. Texture is a touch fizzier than watery. Overall, I am very pleased.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On cask at brewery. Dark purple red. Great lacing and lingering head. Sweet boozey nose if dark fruit. Full but syrupy body. Tastes like a dark Belgian -- dates, dark fruits, sweet malting.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Hopcat Ann Arbor. Pours dark brown with an off-white head. Aromas of bourbon, molasses, spirits in general, cocoa powder. Bourbon, spirit alcohol flavor with roasty coffee and cocoa. Quite nice.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very dark bown, pretty much black actually, in color.
The aroma is really dominated by the bourbon barrel flavors. There are some bread and toffee flavors from either the bourbon barrel or the malt. Though this is billed as a black IPA, I found the hop flavors very subdued.
The alcohol is pretty heavy; the body full; the sweetness moderate. The finish is long and dominated by the bourbon flavors.
What I liked about this beer: the bourbon flavors add some real interest to this beer.
What I donít like: the bourbon flavors almost totally dominate this beer, so much so that both the hops and malt are quite subdued into the background. Frankly I think the beer is too lightweight for the bourbon barrel aging.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap at Hopcat Ann Arbor. Black pour with a small foamy head that fades to a messy film and leaves tons of webbing. Aroma is mostly just straight up bourbon, vanilla, and oak. Hints of roast and chocolate come through. Taste is the same. Loads of bourbon but itís still smooth. Hints of roast and pine. Not bad but it comes off like a thin BB stout thatís a bit boring.

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Reno's east. Bourbon barrel helped the aroma and mouthfeel of the b craft but muddied everything else. Rare occasion where I like the non BB version better. Less hoppy and more malty but super hot.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at Renoís East, East Lansing. Deep opaque brown/black body, thin creamy tight head. Inky, strong chocolatey nose with big booze and oak in addition to big juicy citrusy, piny hops. The body starts with big boozy oak, settling into sweet, juicy hops notes of citrus and pine. Lots of burnt sugars. The oak is a tad harsh, and the base black IPA is muddled by the barrel heat.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft. I liked the B-Craft this is based on; I enjoyed this variation on it even more. Nice hints of oak, bourbon, coffee, hops and bitterness. Big taste, but not boozy.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap at 7 Monks in TC, and what a nice surprise! Very black pour with a thick khaki ring of bubbles. Nose is a blast of bourbon over sweet malt. Very sweet flavor. Nice and big on the palate, sticky, oily, and delicious. The bourbon really works with the base beer, as B-Craft is quite malty as a black IPA to begin with. The bourbon just fleshes out the flavor and gives it a nice sweet alcohol kick that I dig. Good stuff for sure.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pitch black brown/black pour. Thin layer of offwhite foam quickly disappeared. Lots of lacing. Faint malt and butterscotch scent. A lot smoother and less hoppy than regular b-craft. Roasted and malty flavor, with a finish that's a bit dry and scotch-y but artificial.
